This Mega Snowstorm Will Be a Test for the US Supply Chain
Shipping experts say the big winter storm across a wide swath of the country should be business as usual--if their safeguards hold. Up to two-thirds of the US is facing down the threat of serious snow, cold, and ice this weekend, with the potential to snarl roads (and the businesses that depend on them) from Texas up to New York City . At this point, grocery stores, logistics experts, warehouse operators, and trucking companies have been prepping for days. Still, the effects on the supply chain--and the retail store shelves that depend on them--are yet to be determined. On one hand, this is winter business as usual.
Police admit overstating Maccabi fan ban evidence
West Midlands Police has admitted it overstated the evidence used to make the decision to ban Israeli fans from a match in Birmingham. Craig Guildford, its former chief constable, retired earlier this month after damning criticism of the ban on Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from the Europa League match against Aston Villa, last November. In newly released documents, the force also said we did not engage early enough with the local Jewish community, and indicated there was now a ban on AI use after its evidence included a match that did not take place. Furthermore, it said its operations would have lasted four days, involved multiple forces, and cost more than £5m, if 2,500 away fans had attended. The documents were released ahead of a public meeting on Tuesday, at which Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands, Simon Foster, will discuss at his accountability and governance board, the decision to ban the Maccabi fans.

TikTok Is Now Collecting Even More Data About Its Users. According to its new privacy policy, TikTok now collects more data on its users, including their precise location, after majority ownership officially switched to a group based in the US. These changes are part of TikTok's transition to new ownership. In order to continue operating in the US, TikTok was compelled by the US government to transition from Chinese control to a new, American-majority corporate entity.
CBP Wants AI-Powered 'Quantum Sensors' for Finding Fentanyl in Cars
US Customs and Border Protection is paying General Dynamics to create prototype "quantum sensors," to be used with an AI database to detect fentanyl and other narcotics. United States Customs and Border Protection is paying General Dynamics to create a prototype of "quantum sensors" alongside a "database with artificial intelligence " designed "to detect illicit objects and substances (such as fentanyl) in vehicles, containers, and other devices," according to a contract justification published in a federal register last week. "This database and sensor project will integrate advanced quantum and classical sensing technologies with Artificial Intelligence and ultimately deploy proven concepts and end products anywhere in the CBP environment," the justification document reads. "Under this requirement, CBP will take additional steps to enhance its ability to detect, and thus, significantly reduce the harms of illicit contraband entering the United States of America, thus bolstering national security." The document redacts the name of the company developing the prototype; however, contract details included in the federal register entry reveal that the justification is for a $2.4 million General Dynamics contract that has been public since December 2025.
Are ICE agents trained to use 'deadly force' and evade lawsuits?
Are ICE agents trained to use'deadly force' and evade lawsuits? In the weeks since United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jonathan Ross shot and killed Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, Minnesota, another ICE agent shot a Latino man in the leg, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Good's killing and the subsequent shooting have ignited a wave of calls and queries about whether ICE officers can be prosecuted. But the shootings in Minnesota are not outliers, and the history of ICE shootings shows that holding officers to account has been next to impossible. I know, because I investigated the agency's practices, obtaining documents that reveal how it operates and how its officers are trained to shield themselves from scrutiny and lawsuits.
Watch: Drone footage shows scale of one illegal waste dump
Hundreds of illegal dumps are operating across England, including at least 11 so-called super sites containing tens of thousands of tonnes of rubbish, a BBC investigation has found. Drone footage showed one of the waste dumps in Over, Gloucestershire. Most sites are in countryside locations, often hidden, and on what should be agricultural land. Police say many are run by organised crime gangs, who are making cash by charging much less than legitimate operators to take and bury waste. AI-Powered Disinformation Swarms Are Coming for Democracy
Advances in artificial intelligence are creating a perfect storm for those seeking to spread disinformation at unprecedented speed and scale. And it's virtually impossible to detect. In 2016, hundreds of Russians filed into a modern office building on 55 Savushkina Street in St. Petersburg every day; they were part of the now-infamous troll farm known as the Internet Research Agency . Day and night, seven days a week, these employees would manually comment on news articles, post on Facebook and Twitter, and generally seek to rile up Americans about the then-upcoming presidential election. When the scheme was finally uncovered, there was widespread media coverage and Senate hearings, and social media platforms made changes in the way they verified users.
