People Who Say They're Experiencing AI Psychosis Beg the FTC for Help The Federal Trade Commission received 200 complaints mentioning ChatGPT between November 2022 and August 2025. Several attributed delusions, paranoia, and spiritual crises to the chatbot. On March 13, a woman from Salt Lake City, Utah called the Federal Trade Commission to file a complaint against OpenAI's ChatGPT. She claimed to be acting "on behalf of her son, who was experiencing a delusional breakdown." "The consumer's son has been interacting with an AI chatbot called ChatGPT, which is advising him not to take his prescribed medication and telling him that his parents are dangerous," reads the FTC's summary of the call.


Understanding cyclists' perception of driverless vehicles through eye-tracking and interviews

As automated vehicles (AVs) become increasingly popular, the question arises as to how cyclists will interact with such vehicles. This study investigated (1) whether cyclists spontaneously notice if a vehicle is driverless, (2) how well they perform a driver-detection task when explicitly instructed, and (3) how they carry out such tasks. Using a Wizard-of-Oz method, 37 participants cycled a designated route and encountered an AV multiple times in two experimental sessions. In Session 1, participants cycled the route uninstructed, while in Session 2, they were instructed to verbally report whether they detected the presence or absence of a driver. Additionally, we recorded the participants' gaze behaviour with eye-tracking and their responses in post-session interviews. The interviews revealed that 30% of the cyclists spontaneously mentioned the absence of a driver (Session 1), and when instructed (Session 2), they detected the absence and presence of the driver with 93% accuracy. The eye-tracking data showed that cyclists looked more frequently and longer at the vehicle in Session 2 compared to Session 1. Furthermore, participants exhibited intermittent sampling of the vehicle, and they looked in front of the vehicle when it was far away and towards the windshield region when it was closer. The post-session interviews also indicated that participants were curious, felt safe, and reported a need to receive information about the AV's driving state. In conclusion, cyclists can detect the absence of a driver in the AV, and this detection may influence their perceptions of safety. Further research is needed to explore these findings in real-world traffic conditions.


Extracting Meaningful Attention on Source Code: An Empirical Study of Developer and Neural Model Code Exploration

The high effectiveness of neural models of code, such as OpenAI Codex and AlphaCode, suggests coding capabilities of models that are at least comparable to those of humans. However, previous work has only used these models for their raw completion, ignoring how the model reasoning, in the form of attention weights, can be used for other downstream tasks. Disregarding the attention weights means discarding a considerable portion of what those models compute when queried. To profit more from the knowledge embedded in these large pre-trained models, this work compares multiple approaches to post-process these valuable attention weights for supporting code exploration. Specifically, we compare to which extent the transformed attention signal of CodeGen, a large and publicly available pretrained neural model, agrees with how developers look at and explore code when each answering the same sense-making questions about code. At the core of our experimental evaluation, we collect, manually annotate, and open-source a novel eye-tracking dataset comprising 25 developers answering sense-making questions on code over 92 sessions. We empirically evaluate five attention-agnostic heuristics and ten attention-based post processing approaches of the attention signal against our ground truth of developers exploring code, including the novel concept of follow-up attention which exhibits the highest agreement. Beyond the dataset contribution and the empirical study, we also introduce a novel practical application of the attention signal of pre-trained models with completely analytical solutions, going beyond how neural models' attention mechanisms have traditionally been used.


Eye Gaze Estimation Model Analysis

We explore techniques for eye gaze estimation using machine learning. Eye gaze estimation is a common problem for various behavior analysis and human-computer interfaces. The purpose of this work is to discuss various model types for eye gaze estimation and present the results from predicting gaze direction using eye landmarks in unconstrained settings. In unconstrained real-world settings, feature-based and model-based methods are outperformed by recent appearance-based methods due to factors like illumination changes and other visual artifacts. We discuss a learning-based method for eye region landmark localization trained exclusively on synthetic data. We discuss how to use detected landmarks as input to iterative model-fitting and lightweight learning-based gaze estimation methods and how to use the model for person-independent and personalized gaze estimations.
