They're becoming more like colleagues or co-workers -- members of the team who can collaborate with us to solve problems. As the relationship between humans and machines evolves, it promises to turn design into a team sport where humans and machines are playing side-by-side, together. This new way of working will transform design in exciting ways, expanding the possibilities of what we can make and how we can shape the world around us. One of the most influential tools moving the relationship between humans and machines in this new collaborative direction is generative design. This technology allows a designer to feed various criteria and constraints into a computer that harnesses the computing power of the cloud to rapidly generate hundreds of design options that meet those criteria.

Technological revolutions have long animated economic history. The concept of "creative destruction"--in which technological advancement destroys certain sectors of the economy while giving rise to new ones--has roots in some of the earliest economic thought.1 This process hinges on the idea that machines serve to supplement human labor, primarily labor dedicated to repetitive physical and cognitive tasks. At the moment, machines can solve intensive well-defined tasks but for the most part cannot be expected to define problems nor identify and traverse particularly complex systems without human oversight. Robots: A Retrospective The most primitive economies are essentially brawn-based. Human labor is largely priced by the ability to perform physical tasks associated with farming and building. A number of studies (e.g., Thomas and Strauss, 1997) show how in modern-day less-developed economies, men make more than woman as a function of body mass and thus perceived brawn, and that men with more brawn made more than those with less.

Evolution of the Internet over several past decades into a global interconnected web has changed entirely the technology landscape, social circumstances and market conditions. The overall effect is acceleration, amplification and automation. New companies emerged, growing so big and fast that they now dominate certain global markets. All this would be difficult to imagine without a global infrastructure fabric containing millions of servers in strategically placed data centers and serving billions of customers daily. Established corporations have been late in transforming their IT infrastructure in a similar fashion, which is the simplest explanation as to why cloud computing is making major inroads into markets today.

Imagine if, rather than a few times a year, we had a three-day weekend every week. Writing in The Conversation, Alex Williams, a lecturer in Sociology at City University London, explains why it may be the best way to reduce our environmental impact. A reduction in working hours generally correlates with marked reductions in energy consumption, as economists David Rosnick and Mark Weisbrot have argued. In fact, if Americans simply followed European levels of working hours, for example, they would see an estimated 20 per cent reduction in energy use – and hence in carbon emissions.

MUMBAI: In order to understand its effects on the finance and accounting industry, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, (CIMA) the world's leading and largest UK based professional body, conducted a global survey across select European, African and Asian countries. A majority of financial leaders are of the opinion that artificial intelligence helps enhance efficiency and accuracy of the business. This recent global study reveals that more than two-thirds (64%) of finance professionals from India encourage increasing automation as it saves time, money and helps ease the indecision process in their organisations. At a global level, Zimbabwe tops the chart with (75%) professionals supporting automation, followed by China with a 67% of acceptance. This indicates that accountants regard the impact of new technologies as an opportunity rather than a threat.
