The Snasci Logo comprises of three smaller rings, intersected by a large ring. Symbolically, this represents an adaptation of the Three Laws of Robotics by the science fiction author Isaac Asimov. The rules first appeared in his short story "Runaround" (1942). Quoting from the "Handbook of Robotics, 56th Edition, 2058 A.D.", the laws are: Whilst these laws are broadly acceptable for a robot, they are too narrow for an Artificial General Intelligence. An artificial General Intelligence must deal with scenarios that go beyond physical interaction with humans.

Ford reported a sharp drop in October sales in the U.S. Unit sales declined 12% as passenger car sales slumped. Ford postponed its release on Tuesday due to fire delays at its headquarters in Michigan. Ford is working on a new technology that uses an array of sensors that monitors activity going on behind a car that is backing up and stops it if the driver doesn't notice a pedestrian or another car. SAN FRANCISCO -- Ford Motor is working on a suite of new driver-assist safety features for its production cars that stop short of offering full autonomy. Among the technologies being developed at the automaker's Research and Innovation Center in Aachen, Germany, include camera- and laser-enabled systems that can take over the steering wheel in an emergency to avoid high-speed collisions, as well as mapping-triggered dash alerts that warn drivers they're traveling down a one-way road.

That's the takeaway from a draft report on robotics produced by the European Parliament, which warns that artificial intelligence and increased automation present legal and ethical challenges that could have dire consequences. "Within the space of a few decades [artificial intelligence] could surpass human intellectual capacity in a manner which, if not prepared for, could pose a challenge to humanity's capacity to control its own creation and ... the survival of the species," the draft states. The report offers a series of recommendations to prepare Europe for this advanced breed of robot, which it says now "seem poised to unleash a new industrial revolution."

Q3 is generally provide limited visibility given vacations and schedules especially in Europe. And I had spoken about Brexit on the last call and I'm pleased to say that concerns have not materialized with the exception of currency of course. And I'm pleased to see the continued progress we're making towards having less lumpy quarters despite the inherent lumpiness of this business, even in the face of those currency headwinds. Those currency headwinds caught a couple of points off of our results.


Risk experts say candidates not focusing on key threats but Clinton has better handle

WASHINGTON – It's a scary world out there, risk experts agree, but they say Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton often focus on the wrong dangers -- fixing on hazards that are unlikely, or unlikely to cause massive pain. The Associated Press asked 21 risk experts to analyze the presidential campaign and list what they consider the five biggest threats to the world. Climate change topped the list with 17 mentions, often as the top threat. It was followed by use of nuclear weapons, pandemics, cyberattacks and problems with high technology. Neither Trump's signature issues of immigration and terrorism nor Clinton's major concerns, financial insecurity and gun violence, made the list. "I have not heard or read about any significant deliberations of the major risks that face our country today and tomorrow.

Since 2012, deals and dollars to AI startups have been on a steady rise, and this year is extending that trend. Our AI category includes companies applying AI solutions to verticals like healthcare, security, advertising, and finance as well as those developing general-purpose AI tech. A methodology for solving problems with DataScience for Internet of Things - Part Two

Many vendors like Cisco and Intel are proponents of Edge Processing (also called Edge computing). The main idea behind Edge Computing is to push processing away from the core and towards the Edge of the network. For IoT, that means pushing processing towards the sensors or a gateway. This enables data to be initially processed at the Edge device possibly enabling smaller datasets sent to the core. Devices at the Edge may not be continuously connected to the network.


A-Ward_p\b{eta}: Effective hierarchical clustering using the Minkowski metric and a fast k -means initialisation

In this paper we make two novel contributions to hierarchical clustering. First, we introduce an anomalous pattern initialisation method for hierarchical clustering algorithms, called A-Ward, capable of substantially reducing the time they take to converge. This method generates an initial partition with a sufficiently large number of clusters. This allows the cluster merging process to start from this partition rather than from a trivial partition composed solely of singletons. Our second contribution is an extension of the Ward and Ward p algorithms to the situation where the feature weight exponent can differ from the exponent of the Minkowski distance. This new method, called A-Ward p\b{eta} , is able to generate a much wider variety of clustering solutions. We also demonstrate that its parameters can be estimated reasonably well by using a cluster validity index. We perform numerous experiments using data sets with two types of noise, insertion of noise features and blurring within-cluster values of some features. These experiments allow us to conclude: (i) our anomalous pattern initialisation method does indeed reduce the time a hierarchical clustering algorithm takes to complete, without negatively impacting its cluster recovery ability; (ii) A-Ward p\b{eta} provides better cluster recovery than both Ward and Ward p.
