10 Ludicrously Advanced Technologies We Can Expect by the Year 2100
Predicting the future is hard. It's nearly impossible to know what technological marvels await in the next few years, let alone the next eight decades. Undaunted, we've put together a list of 10 super-advanced technologies that should be around by the year 2100. Some of these technologies are rather "out there," but I'm reasonably confident in making these predictions. As radical as some of the items described here appear, most--if not all--should be around by the turn of the 22nd century.

Earlier this month, ILTA hosted London Insight, which was one of the largest legal tech events in the UK this year. There were plenty of great speakers to see, but for Artificial Lawyer one session in particular stood out: 'Legal Innovation: More Than Just Artificial Intelligence'. The following is an overview of some of the key points made during the session. To begin the session each of the four speakers set out some of the key ways they approach the use of legal tech, especially AI. A methodology for solving problems with DataScience for Internet of Things - Part Two
Many vendors like Cisco and Intel are proponents of Edge Processing (also called Edge computing). The main idea behind Edge Computing is to push processing away from the core and towards the Edge of the network. For IoT, that means pushing processing towards the sensors or a gateway. This enables data to be initially processed at the Edge device possibly enabling smaller datasets sent to the core. Devices at the Edge may not be continuously connected to the network.
Amazon Echo Dot review: as good as the Echo for one-third of the price
The Amazon Echo Dot is essentially all the bits of an Amazon Echo that make it interesting, but without the speaker beneath it – and so it costs just one-third of the price. The Dot is one of three Alexa-enabled products from Amazon that puts the company's voice assistant front and centre. Only two, the Echo Dot and the Echo are available in the UK: the third, the portable Bluetooth speaker called Echo Tap, is only available in the US. The Dot is a small black or white puck with a ring of lights at the top, four buttons and a seven-microphone array – the same system that makes the Echo speaker so good at hearing you from pretty much anywhere. It listens out for a "wake word", which by default is the name of the voice assistant contained within the Dot: "Alexa".

Since just a few years a range of new fintechs hit the market with so-called robo-advisers or automated financial advice tools. They have been popping up (and keep popping up) in no time and some already even dissapeared. It will be hard for robo-adviser startups to scale; differentiating their services is key. Robo-advisers, essentially software tools driven by artificial intelligence and crunching loads of data, are predicted to be an important growing category of fintech.

The experiment with having a robot in my home was going well – useful exchanges, mutual learning, some bonding – right up until the robot thought I told it to "fuck off". But the robot was convinced. It flashed its blue light and scolded me in a tone mixing hurt, disappointment and reprimand: "That's not very nice to say." Or bristled, saying it had erred and should pay more attention before leaping to conclusions. I could have unplugged the thing. Instead, worried at hurt feelings and a vague possibility of retribution, I apologised.

Being a 40-something non-Japanese leaving a job in Tokyo to move to the countryside seems to make me a little bit different from your average person in this part of the world. I've been receiving a number of invitations to interesting and exciting activities and events. On Sunday, November 6th, I was invited to a talk event at the opening of a facility for the study of Japanese traditional culture in Himeji. Along with the Hyogo Prefectural Governor, Toshizo Ido; a professor of music and shakuhachi expert, Satoshi Shimura; and an arts and culture producer, Masako Hamada, we discussed questions surrounding the importance of the provinces in disseminating culture, and how to share Japanese traditional culture overseas. I was asked to give the view from gaikoku on Japanese traditional culture.
Google DeepMind and Royal Free in five-year deal
Google DeepMind has extended its controversial partnership with the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, signing a new five-year deal. The London trust will work with the British machine learning company, which was acquired by Google in 2014, on further developing the Streams clinical app, which has so far used algorithms to detect acute kidney injury. In a statement, Royal Free said that app will be used as a diagnostic support tool for a far wider range of illness, alerting doctors earlier of patients at risk of getting ill. "Like breaking news alerts on a mobile phone, the technology will notify nurses and doctors immediately when test results show a patient is at risk of becoming seriously ill, and provide all the information they need to take action. "Streams will be extended beyond AKI to help care for patients with other serious conditions including sepsis and organ failure." The expanded Streams will alert doctors to patient in need "within seconds", rather than hours, it added. It should also free up doctors from paperwork, creating more than half a million hours of extra direct care, the trust claimed. Royal Free medical director Stephen Powis said: "This is about bringing information to doctors and nurses, much in the way we get news alerts on our phones.
