On October 27, 2016 Artificial Lawyer published a guest article by Dutch lawyer Niek van de Pasch on the quickly growing legal tech scene in Holland. It was a very interesting read, but it only added to my growing sense of unease, a feeling that started upon my discovery of Dutch Legal Tech in February 2016. I have been interested in all things tech for a very long time.

The Research Group in Computational Linguistics (RGCL) at the University of Wolverhampton was founded by Prof. Ruslan Mitkov in 1998 and is one of the leading research institutes in the UK. The group is well known for its high level research with strong international and inter-sector collaboration, and is renowned for its innovative NLP research and development of various NLP tools and resources. The Research Group in Computational Linguistics is pursuing active research in many areas including anaphora resolution, automatic summarization, terminology extraction, corpus development and exploitation, information extraction, named entity recognition, question answering, multiple choice questions and multilingual applications. In addition to these topics, the members of the team have their own particular research interests.

New stem cell research project to replicate brain's neural networks using 3D nanoprinting

Aston University has launched MESO-BRAIN, a major stem cell research project which it hopes will develop three-dimensional (3D) nanoprinting techniques that can be used to replicate the brain's neural networks. The cornerstone of the MESO-BRAIN project will be its use of pluripotent stem cells generated from adult human cells that have been turned into brain cells, which will form neural networks with specific biological architectures. Advance imaging and detection technologies developed in the project will be used to report on the activity of these networks in real time. Such technology would mark a new era of medical and neuroscience research which would see screening and testing conducted using physiologically relevant 3D living human neural networks. In the future, this could potentially be used to generate networks capable of replacing damaged areas in the brains of those suffering from Parkinson's disease, dementia or other brain trauma.


2020 Could Be Year Of The Chatbot PYMNTS.com

In fact, 80 percent of businesses reported already incorporating or planning on adding chatbots by the year 2020. That's according to a study pulled together by Oracle, surveying more than 800 decision makers at companies in France, the Netherlands, South Africa and the U.K. Most were in the C-suite -- chief strategy officers and marketing officers; others were senior sales and marketing executives. They were asked about emerging technologies and whether they've already employed them or are interested in moving in a certain direction. In general, the survey found that these leaders are turning to focus on automation-related technologies, specifically implementing chatbots to enhance or fix issues around sales, marketing and customer service. Speaking of customer service, more than 40 percent of those executives said they think automation will improve that experience over the short and long haul.
