Amazon email scam could cost up to £750 - here's what you should look out for
Amazon customers have been warned they could lose hundreds of pounds if they fall for a "convincing" fake email scam. Action Fraud, the UK's fraud and cyber-crime centre, said the spoofed emails from "service@amazon.co.uk" claims recipients have made an order online and mimic an automatic customer email notification. The number of people who have been sent the fake email is unclear, however Action Fraud said it had received several reports about the scam. The email claims shoppers have ordered products including an expensive vintage chandelier, Boses stereos, iPhone's and luxury watches. In order to get a shopper's financial information, the email cleverly states that if the recipient didn't authorised the transaction they can click on the help centre link to receive a full refund.

Liviu Babitz opens his collar to reveal a small silicone gadget, the size of a matchbox, attached to his chest with two titanium bars that sit just under the skin. Most resembling a compact bike light, the North Sense that Babitz has attached is an artificial sense organ that delivers a short vibration every time the user faces North. Babitz and Scott Cohen, co-founder at Cyborg Nest, the company that created North Sense, are currently the only two using the product, which will soon be shipped out to clients who have pre-ordered it over the last few months. "Around us is an entire universe we don't perceive," Cohen explains. "As we walk down the street there's radiation, X-rays, infrared and ultraviolet, as well as the electromagnetic field of the planet. So we want to create new senses to become aware of our environment."

In this article, I cover the 12 types of AI problems i.e. I address the question: in which scenarios should you use Artificial Intelligence (AI)? Recently, I conducted a strategy workshop for a group of senior executives running a large multi national. In the workshop, one person asked the question: How many cats does it need to identify a Cat? This question is in reference to Andrew Ng's famous paper on Deep Learning where he was correctly able to identify images of Cats from YouTube videos.

Why do Decision Trees Work?
In this article we will discuss the machine learning method called "decision trees", moving quickly over the usual "how decision trees work" and spending time on "why decision trees work." We will write from a computational learning theory perspective, and hope this helps make both decision trees and computational learning theory more comprehensible. The goal of this article is to set up terminology so we can state in one or two sentences why decision trees tend to work well in practice. Newcomers to data science are often disappointed to learn that the job of the data scientist isn't tweaking and inventing new machine learning algorithms. In the "big data" world supervised learning has been a solved problem since at least 1951 (see [FixHodges1951] for neighborhood density methods, see [GordonOlshen1978] for k-nearest neighbor and decision tree methods).
