AI and the legal sector: Opportunities, challenges and predictions
Robert Morley, chief operating officer at Excello Law, examines the use of AI in the legal industry. Alongside Brexit and Donald Trump, artificial Intelligence (AI) kept headline writers working overtime in 2016 – each competing for our attention in a world of increasing uncertainty. Online, a clear winner has emerged from this unlikely trio of scary topics: AI returns nearly two billion results in Google search, whereas'The Donald' scores a more modest 368 million and Brexit a mere 108 million. Among articles and blogs about the future of law firms, AI has similarly dominated attention as the number one theme. Underpinned by dystopian visions of lawyers being replaced by robots and the growing ranks of tech companies dedicated to replacing the human element from much of day-to-day legal practice, the future for the lawyer has seemed bleak.

Plant Biologists Welcome Their Robot Overlords
As a postdoc, plant biologist Christopher Topp was not satisfied with the usual way of studying root development: growing plants on agar dishes and placing them on flatbed scanners to measure root lengths and angles. Five years later, the idea of using detailed imaging to study plant form and function has caught on. The use of drones and robots is also on the rise as researchers pursue the'quantified plant'--one in which each trait has been carefully and precisely measured from nearly every angle, from the length of its root hairs to the volatile chemicals it emits under duress. Such traits are known as an organism's phenotype, and researchers are looking for faster and more comprehensive ways of characterizing it. From February 10 to 14, scientists will gather in Tucson, Arizona, to compare their methods.
Vanishing point: the rise of the invisible computer
In 1971, Intel, then an obscure firm in what would only later come to be known as Silicon Valley, released a chip called the 4004. It was the world's first commercially available microprocessor, which meant it sported all the electronic circuits necessary for advanced number-crunching in a single, tiny package. It was a marvel of its time, built from 2,300 tiny transistors, each around 10,000 nanometres (or billionths of a metre) across – about the size of a red blood cell. A transistor is an electronic switch that, by flipping between "on" and "off", provides a physical representation of the 1s and 0s that are the fundamental particles of information. In 2015 Intel, by then the world's leading chipmaker, with revenues of more than $55bn that year, released its Skylake chips. The firm no longer publishes exact numbers, but the best guess is that they have about 1.5bn–2 bn transistors apiece. Spaced 14 nanometres apart, each is so tiny as to be literally invisible, for they are more than an order of magnitude smaller than the wavelengths of light that humans use to see.

A true genius, Alan Turing was played brilliantly by Benedict Cumberbatch inThe Imitation Game -- the movie about his life and role in ending WWII -- which introduced him to a whole new generation of admirers. It wasTuring who predicted machine learning would play a big role in modern computing in his article the "Turing Test," way back in 1950. Indeed, Turing was way ahead of his time, which was a major theme in the movie, but now the world has caught up. The major advancements in readily accessible computing power, the quantity of data available, and algorithms that truly make machine learning possible are driving our ability to process data, analyze it, and act on it in ways that would make Mr. Turing proud. These advances have completely changed the machine learning game: The fundamental concept remains the same, but now it's far more sophisticated, efficient, and easily deployable. Beyond the big headline-grabbing examples of how machine learning will impact our lives -- such as through driverless cars -- it has exciting potential to put an end to the bland and sometimes ineffective customer experiences that many retailers are delivering to their customers.

Initially when I have started working on robotic model for some robotic competitions, I was totally unaware of these languages. I have started my work with relay logic. It was a most basic thing in electronic and as an electronic engineer I was expert with relay logic. It was the time of year 2000 when internet connection was not so cheap as compare to now.
Not sci-fi anymore: Paris introduces first driverless buses (PHOTOS)
There are now two such buses, each of which can take up to six people the 200 meters over a bridge between the Lyon and Austerlitz train stations. The buses will be test-trialed for the next three months in a designated lane, without entering Paris' busy traffic. The city's authorities consider the new driverless buses a breakthrough. "Autonomous vehicles represent a revolution for every city on the planet... which will change our urban environment and public space in a spectacular fashion over the next 20 years," Paris Deputy Mayor Jean-Louis Missika told reporters. Although Paris has one of the best public transport systems in the world, like most capitals, it is difficult to reach from the suburbs, turning each morning commute into an ordeal.

Forbes "30 under 30″ list celebrates the achievements of 30 game changers in 20 different industries -- 600 in total -- of the brightest young entrepreneurs and innovators who are challenging conventional wisdom. The list highlights some interesting trends in robotics, AI, intelligence energy storage, and automation.
