Chip Magic

#artificialintelligence

Thanks to both a range of demanding new applications, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and more, as well as a perceived threat to Moore's Law (which has "guided" the semiconductor industry for over 50 years to a state of staggering capability and complexity), we're starting to see an impressive range of new output from today's silicon designers. Entirely new chip designs, architectures and capabilities are coming from a wide array of key component players across the tech industry, including Intel (NASDAQ:INTC), AMD (NASDAQ:AMD), Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA), Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM), Micron (NASDAQ:MU) and ARM, as well as internal efforts from companies like Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Samsung (OTC:SSNLF), Huawei, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT). It's a digital revival that many thought would never come. In fact, just a few years ago, there were many who were predicting the death, or at least serious weakening, of most major semiconductor players. Growth in many major hardware markets had started to slow, and there was a sense that improvements in semiconductor performance were reaching a point of diminishing returns, particularly in CPUs (central processing units), the most well-known type of chip.

Filtering startup news with Machine Learning MonkeyLearn Blog

#artificialintelligence

On this new post series, we will analyze hundreds of thousands of articles from TechCrunch, VentureBeat and Recode to discover cool trends and insights about startups. These are the types of questions we aim to answer with this analysis. On this first post, we will cover how Scrapy can be used to get all the articles ever published on these tech news sites and how MonkeyLearn can be used for filtering these crawled articles by whether they are about startups or not. We want to create a dataset of startup news articles that can be used for studying trends later on. On the second post, we will create text classifiers that do analysis on the actual content of the startup articles. Is it a news about acquisition? Finally, on the third post we will use the data we got here, and the classifiers from the second post, to answer our questions.

Scotland to Play Host to Royal Navy Cyber War Games - Digit

#artificialintelligence

Known as Information Warrior 17, it will take place between 26 March and 6 April in various locations in and around Scotland. It is intended to drive the development of cutting edge technology in the Navy, including artificial intelligence, to put the UK at the forefront of Information Warfare. It will also test the defensive capabilities of ships and submarines against cyber attacks, which are as real a threat in the modern age as traditional weapons like rockets, missiles, and torpedoes. Admiral Sir Philip Jones, First Sea Lord, said: "We are living in a data-driven age in which our adversaries are already exploiting the potential of Information Warfare, and we must respond in kind." The Royal Navy has expressed an interest in using AI technology to develop a "Ship's Mind" at the centre of its warships, enhancing efficiency and allowing for fast and complex decisions to be made automatically.

Meet the Artist Using Ritual Magic to Trap Self-Driving Cars - Creators

#artificialintelligence

Is it a silly prank, a Pagan ritual, or a genius discovery about the next era of mass transit? In a picture posted to Flickr by artist James Bridle--known for coining the term, "New Aesthetic"--a car is sitting in the middle of a parking lot has been surrounded by a magic salt circle. In the language of road markings, the dotted white lines on the outside say, "Come On In," but the solid white line on the inside says, "Do Not Cross." To the car's built-in cameras, these are indomitable laws of magic: Petrificus Totalus for autonomous automobiles. Captioned simply, "Autonomous Trap 001," the scene evokes a world of narratives involving the much-hyped technology of self-driving cars.
