Police report 12-fold jump in drone offences
Up to ten crimes involving drones are reported to police every day amid a surge in their popularity, an investigation has found. Drones are at the centre of thousands of incidents such as rows between neighbours, prison smuggling, 'scoping' before burglaries, mid-air near misses and snooping. Crimes logged by police rocketed between 2014 and 2016 โ last year there were 3,456 incidents, equivalent to nearly ten a day. It is almost triple the 2015 figure of 1,237 and more than 12 times the 2014 tally of 283. The true total is likely to be higher as full data was not available for all UK forces.

Tech-savvy paedophiles are using a series of digital techniques known as "masking" and "breadcrumbing" to hide illegal materials from regular web users online, while allowing others to track down criminal images and film by following a series of covert clues. The trend was exposed by the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) in its latest annual report, which covers new information on how child sex abuse images and videos are being hosted, distributed and identified online. Normally used by cyber-criminals, the tricks are used to hide illegal material in plain sight. "If you access the site directly, you just get legitimate content," Sarah Smith, a technical researcher at the IWF, told The Independent. "If you follow the pathway through links from other sites, then it unlocks the child sexual abuse imagery. "It's stored in the browser, and it drops a cookie into the browser so it can see the trail that you've come along to actually access the site.
A Probabilistic Linear Genetic Programming with Stochastic Context-Free Grammar for solving Symbolic Regression problems

Traditional Linear Genetic Programming (LGP) algorithms are based only on the selection mechanism to guide the search. Genetic operators combine or mutate random portions of the individuals, without knowing if the result will lead to a fitter individual. Probabilistic Model Building Genetic Programming (PMB-GP) methods were proposed to overcome this issue through a probability model that captures the structure of the fit individuals and use it to sample new individuals. This work proposes the use of LGP with a Stochastic Context-Free Grammar (SCFG), that has a probability distribution that is updated according to selected individuals. We proposed a method for adapting the grammar into the linear representation of LGP. Tests performed with the proposed probabilistic method, and with two hybrid approaches, on several symbolic regression benchmark problems show that the results are statistically better than the obtained by the traditional LGP.
Propagators and Solvers for the Algebra of Modular Systems

To appear in the proceedings of LPAR 21. Solving complex problems can involve non-trivial combinations of distinct knowledge bases and problem solvers. The Algebra of Modular Systems is a knowledge representation framework that provides a method for formally specifying such systems in purely semantic terms. Formally, an expression of the algebra defines a class of structures. Many expressive formalism used in practice solve the model expansion task, where a structure is given on the input and an expansion of this structure in the defined class of structures is searched (this practice overcomes the common undecidability problem for expressive logics). In this paper, we construct a solver for the model expansion task for a complex modular systems from an expression in the algebra and black-box propagators or solvers for the primitive modules. To this end, we define a general notion of propagators equipped with an explanation mechanism, an extension of the alge- bra to propagators, and a lazy conflict-driven learning algorithm. The result is a framework for seamlessly combining solving technology from different domains to produce a solver for a combined system.
