Google's AI can now lip read better than humans after watching thousands of hours of TV
The research follows similar work published by a separate group at the University of Oxford earlier this month. Using related techniques, these scientists were able to create a lip-reading program called LipNet that achieved 93.4 percent accuracy in tests, compared to 52.3 percent human accuracy. However, LipNet was only tested on specially-recorded footage that used volunteers speaking formulaic sentences. By comparison, DeepMind's software -- known as "Watch, Listen, Attend, and Spell" -- was tested on far more challenging footage; transcribing natural, unscripted conversations from BBC politics shows. More than 5,000 hours of footage from TV shows including Newsnight, Question Time, and the World Today, was used to train DeepMind's "Watch, Listen, Attend, and Spell" program.

Referring to an intelligent system, artificial intelligence seeks to recreate the human brain and provide a complex but efficient technology that will innovate the way technological industries work. In recent years, artificial intelligence has seen a big development, with more self-aware robots that are increasingly more capable of performing difficult tasks. With the evolution of the Internet of Things and the rise of automation, artificial intelligence will play a growing part in all processes of design and manufacturing involved in a wide range of engineering industries. The Internet of Things is allowing for an interconnected world, where devices connect everyone from everywhere. This connection allows for engineers from all over the world to collaborate and minimise errors in projects.

Packaging in Python has a bit of a reputation for being a bumpy ride. This is mostly a confused side effect of Python's versatility. Once you understand the natural boundaries between each packaging solution, you begin to realize that the varied landscape is a small price Python programmers pay for using the most balanced, flexible language available. Tiny, swallowable robots are the future of surgery
He rode in the Beast, the president's armored Cadillac limousine, which carried the American and Belgian flags. The poolers note that there was a heavy security presence on the streets: the city was largely empty, large trucks blocked many intersections and scores of armed police lined the route. The two leaders sat across from each other at the center of a long, rectangular table. The conference room had EU and US flags along the wall, and small flower arrangements at the center of the table. Trump then told the leaders about his foreign trip.
Dutch start-up launches next generation mapping drone
Drone company Atmos UAV has launched Marlyn, a lightweight drone which flies automatically, effortlessly and at high wind speeds. One of the first customers that signed up is Skeye, Europe's leading unmanned aircraft data provider. This new technology allows industry professionals around the world to map the surface 10 times faster and guarantees no more drone crashes. "With her unique properties, Marlyn allows us to tackle even our most challenging jobs," says Pieter Franken, co-founder of Skeye, one of Europe's leading unmanned aircraft data providers. He continues: "We expect time savings of up to 50% and moreover save a huge amount of our resources and equipment."
Amazon's automated Go stores could be coming to the UK
Amazon's checkout-free'Go' supermarkets could soon by coming to the UK. The firm has successfully registered trademarks for the store's taglines, including'No Lines. This had led to speculation that Amazon Go stores, which allow customers to avoid queues by buying all of their food through an app, may soon be opening in Britain. Amazon's checkout-free'Go' grocery stores could soon by coming to the UK after the firm patented the shop's tagline, 'No Lines. To enter the store, customers simply open the Amazon Go app and place it to a sensor located on what appears to be a turnstyle in the entrance.

"AI has the double-edged potential to create a true brain for the data centre and associated demand management and placement while at the same time driving much of the new demand for services. As new business models are created through the use of AI you can be certain that there will be an associated impact on data centre demand," Mark Thiele, chief strategy officer Apcera.
Artificial intelligence and quantum computing aid cyber crime fight
You enter your password incorrectly too many times and get locked out of your account; your colleague sets up access to her work email on a new device; someone in your company clicks on an emailed "Google Doc" that is actually a phishing link -- initially thought to be how the recent spread of the WannaCry computer worm began. Each of these events leaves a trace in the form of information flowing through a computer network. But which ones should the security systems protecting your business against cyber attacks pay attention to and which should they ignore? And how do analysts tell the difference in a world that is awash with digital information? The answer could lie in human researchers tapping into artificial intelligence and machine learning, harnessing both the cognitive power of the human mind and the tireless capacity of a machine.
AI for Good Global Summit
In partnership with... Driven by the rapid progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, intelligent machines are gaining the ability to learn, improve and make calculated decisions in ways that will enable them to perform tasks previously thought to rely solely on human experience, creativity, and ingenuit y. As a result, we will in the near future see large parts of our lives influenced by AI. AI innovation will also be central to the achievement of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will help solving humanity's grand challenges by capitalizing on the unprecedented quantities of data now being generated on sentiment behavior, human health, commerce, communications, migration and more. With large parts of our lives being influenced by AI, it is critical that government, industry, academia and civil society work together to evaluate the opportunities presented by AI, ensuring that AI benefits all of humanity. Responding to this critical issue, ITU and the XPRIZE Foundation are organizing AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, 7-9 June, 2017 in partnership with a number of UN sister agencies.
Industry 4.0 and the legal challenges, digital business, autonomous systems.
The buzzwords "Industry 4.0" and "digital business" represent the start of a complex transformational process that will deeply affect industry and society during the next decade. This transformation is based on the convergence of the real (analog) world and the virtual (digital) world by means of machineto- machine (M2M) communication, autonomous systems (for example, robotics) and the Internet of Things (IoT). The German government uses the term "Industry 4.0" as the title of a government project promoting the computerization of traditional industries and the creation of intelligent factories (smart factories) that will be supported by cyberphysical systems and the IoT. The digits "4.0" in Industry 4.0 stand for the fourth industrial revolution: the transition of production from digital processing to fully interconnected processes, products and services. It follows the evolution of production processes for tradable goods from manufacturing to industry production (the first revolution), the move from steam-driven machine production to electricity-driven production (the second revolution) and the shift from analog processing to digital processing and microelectronics (the third revolution). One of the major features of Industry 4.0 is the ability of machines and devices to communicate with each other without a human interface.
