Deep learning experts such as Ian GoodFellow, Jeremy Howard and others shared their perspective on Deep learning. Top medical schools (Mount Sinai, NYU, Massachusetts General Hospital, etc.) and Kaggle -- lung cancer BOWL winners explained their modeling strategies. Coming back to our series, in the last article we talked about basic deep-learning on text and image data. In this article we will focus on the medical images and their formats.

AI enables computers to make autonomous decisions. It is a step forward in automation that is changing the retail industry. For example, AI can decide for the retailer what items to show to shoppers and how to display and present them, and it can recreate the interaction that the shopper experiences with store associates at brick-and-mortar stores by guiding and advising the customer. Some futurists believe as artificial intelligence (AI) becomes smarter, it will lead to a technological singularity: humans and machines melding into one digital, biological entity. Such an explosion of intelligence would lead to an entirely new way of life. Computer scientists forecast that by 2029 AI could be at about the level of intelligence of adult humans. In October 2016 the US National Science and Technology Council released their first ever document on preparing for the future of artificial intelligence. This document outlines the potential impact AI could have on the world economically, including an increase in the wage gap--and significant job reduction.
The Bots Beat Us. Now What?
In the summer of 1977, Bobby Fischer was in self-imposed exile in Pasadena, California. The greatest chess player on Earth at the time, Fischer had joined an apocalyptic cult and covered the windows of his grungy apartment with tinfoil. Russian secret police and Israeli intelligence, he insisted, could spy on him through his dental fillings and influence him with radioactive signals. He hadn't played a recorded game of chess for five years, since defeating Boris Spassky and the Soviet machine in the match of the century in Reykjavik, Iceland, capturing the world championship and becoming an American Cold War hero. Nevertheless, gripped by paranoia and hidden away from the rest of the world, Fischer wrote letters. He sent two, never before published, to a Carnegie Mellon professor and computer scientist named Hans Berliner.

We have already discussed in this space the 2013 work written by University of Oxford's Carl Frey and Michael Osborne, where they discuss the probability of automation for several occupations and concluded that no less than 47% of current jobs are highly likely to be automated in the coming decades. But what distinguishes a career destined to be taken over by artificial entities -- robots, computers or any other device -- from a career with some protection against automation and which will majorly remain, therefore, in the hands of humans? Which careers are "immune" and which ones are "doomed"? The answers to these questions are no longer as simple as they once were. A few years ago, it was relatively safe to say that the jobs in the greatest danger were associated with repetitive and manual tasks -- and, in fact, these positions are now in the process of automation.
Gadget calls the police after listening to man 'beat and threaten to murder' girlfriend
A man who allegedly beat his girlfriend and threatened to kill her has been arrested after a "smart speaker" alerted police. She suffered facial injuries during the attack but refused medical attention, and her child was unharmed. Police say the gadget overheard the incident and recognised one of the alleged attacker's remarks as a command, and proceeded to call 911. However, there's confusion around the identity of the device, which was initially claimed to be a Google Home. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph.

Swarms of smart drones to revolutionise how we watch sports
Anyone who has watched coverage of a festival or sports event in the last few years will probably have witnessed commercial drone use -- in the form of breathtaking aerial footage. But a collaboration of universities, research institutes and broadcasters is looking to take this to the next level by using a small swarm of intelligent drones. The EU-funded MULTIDRONE project seeks to create teams of three to five semi-automated drones that can react to and capture unfolding action at large-scale sports events. Project coordinator Professor Ioannis Pitas, of the University of Bristol, UK, says the collaboration aims to have prototypes ready for testing by its media partners Deutsche Welle and Rai – Radiotelevisione Italiana within 18 months. 'Deutsche Welle has two potential uses lined up – filming the Rund um Wannsee boat race in Berlin, Germany, and also filming football matches with drones instead of normal cameras – while Rai is interested in covering cycling races,' said Prof. Pitas.
DARPA to plug computers into brains to let machines talk directly to people
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is developing computers that can be inserted into brains, in order to restore people's senses. It's poured $65 million of funding into the Neural Engineering System Design (NESD) programme, which aims to build an implantable "neural interface". DARPA, which is the research arm of the US military, says the computers will be used to restore impaired or lost senses, including sight, hearing and speech. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph.
