Facebook to put adverts in Messenger after running out of space in News Feed

Facebook is going to start pushing more adverts out to users, the company has revealed. It's set to introduce ads to Messenger, its chat platform, which Facebook users have to install in order to message other users. The company has hinted that it's close to maxing out the total number of ads it can squeeze into people's News Feeds, and adding more of them to Messenger appears to be its solution. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph. The iPhone 8 might not be ready before its release date, a new report claims. Some central features in the new Apple handset still look like they will need more improvement at launch, according to Fast Company. As such, Apple might ship the hardware required to make them work, but not enable them until it can send a fix through a software update later on. The new iPhone is expected to be the most radical redesign ever, and bring with it new features including a screen that stretches all the way over the front of the screen. A study found that the increasing automation of jobs will hit poorer workers hardest and will further set back social mobility unless urgent action is taken. The research warns that automation could create a society in which an elite, high-skilled group dominates the higher echelon of society while a lower-skilled, low-income group is left with little opportunity to climb the social ladder. In 2015, the big innovation in drones was "follow-me" mode. It wasn't new, but the technology was finally good enough for it to become a leading feature in quadcopters. A few did just that, most notably AirDog, Lily, 3DR, DJI and Hexo . In 2017, Lily is bust, 3DR had to pivot to enterprise and Hexo has been "out of stock" on its website for months. Virgin Mobile makes Twitter 'free' to access

If you have a 4G plan with Virgin Mobile, you can now access Twitter without diving in to your monthly data allowance. That means you can scroll through your feed, check your mentions and respond to pressing Direct Messages without fear of incurring any charges. The "data-free" access joins Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, which the company first offered to subscribers last November. The only catch is that you can't stream live video through the app -- so if you want to watch the news or catch up with the day's Wimbledon action, you'll need to look elsewhere. Virgin Media says the expansion is part of a larger "plan" to offer data-free social messaging.

Google is looking to invest in artificial intelligence startups through its new venture fund, Gradient Ventures. The fund will provide support for startups struggling to overcome engineering challenges in relation to the creation of AI products. This includes providing startups with capital, resources, and mentorship through access to AI experts and educational boot camps. "Through AI, yesterday's science fiction is becoming today's non-fiction. There's everything to reimagine as we usher in this new era of technology--and we're excited to work with entrepreneurs to start building it," the company said in a blog post.


Transformer robots can be printed on demand in just 13 minutes

From wire to finished product in less than 13 minutes: a new robot-builder is faster than most takeaways. It works by bending wire that already has motors attached into different shapes, using a process its designers call 1D printing. Once the robot has performed its job, it can simply be flattened and fed back into the system to be recycled into a new type of robot. "The idea is that you analyse the current situation, then make a robot on the fly that can deal with it," says Sebastian Risi at the IT University of Copenhagen in Denmark, a member of the team that came up with the system. If you need a robot that can fit through a small space or around an odd-shaped corner, you input those constraints into the software and it will deliver something suitable.
