Google has killed off Instant, one of its search engine's quickest features. When it launched back in 2010, it was hailed as "the future of search" and the company also described it as "search-before-you-type". Google said the main benefit it would offer users was saving them time. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph. Sky Soundbox: Company teams up with speaker firm to release soundbar built for watching TV
Sky just released a new box. Except this one makes sound. It has announced the release of its Soundbox – a speaker packed into a small box that will sit alongside the traditional Sky box and the TV. And it's intended as a relatively cheap way of getting great sound as well as great images. It says that the new speaker is intended as the Ultra HD of home audio.

In May 2016 the Royal College of Radiologists highlighted the results of a national workforce survey, including the fact that 230,000 studies a month were stuck in a backlog of over 31 days and that spending to reduce these backlogs had increased by 57%. The story is the same in Scotland, where over £5.25 million per annum is spent on outsourcing. No-one seems to have the answer to this crisis, and with the current state of NHS underfunding it doesn't look likely that one will emerge any time soon. Over the pond, however, there is a huge push towards solving radiology's problems -- and the UK is being left behind.

Facial recognition technology to end train tickets
Facial recognition technology could mean that queuing to buy a train ticket and waiting to go through the barriers may be a thing of the past. The cameras use high speed infrared lights to capture the shape and texture of the face in detail never seen before - even spotting small blemishes and wrinkles. Researchers say they could identify passengers as they walk onto the platform and the time-saving technology could be rolled out in the UK by 2020. Facial recognition identifies people by analysing the shape of a person's face. Each face has approximately 80 unique nodal points which distinguishes one from another.

The race to build mass-market autonomous cars is creating big demand for laser sensors that help vehicles map their surroundings. But cheaper versions of the hardware currently used in experimental self-driving vehicles may not deliver the quality of data required for driving at highway speeds. Most driverless cars make use of lidar sensors, which bounce laser beams off nearby objects to create 3-D maps of their surroundings. Lidar can provide better-quality data than radar and is superior to optical cameras because it is unaffected by variations in ambient light. You've probably seen the best-known example of a lidar sensor, produced by market leader Velodyne.

How Drinking Affects Your Memory
We usually associate alcohol with memory loss, but a small new study suggests it may actually have the opposite effect. The research found that individuals were better able to remember information if they drank alcohol after learning. Of course, this does not offset the dangerous health consequences of abusing alcohol, but a celebratory drink after class may not be such a bad idea. The study found that individuals who drank alcohol after completing a word-learning task were able to remember more of what they learned than those who did not drink alcohol. The researchers suggest the reason for this may be related to alcohol's effect on the hippocampus, the area of the brain that consolidates new information into memories.
