Understanding a Version of Multivariate Symmetric Uncertainty to assist in Feature Selection

In these spaces of high dimensionality, feature selection is a way to exclude those irrelevant and redundant features, whose presence might complicate the task of knowledge discovery. In classification tasks, a feature is considered irrelevant if it contains no information about the class and therefore it is not necessary at all for the predictive task. Besides, it is widely accepted that two features are redundant if their values are correlated. There are several well known measures that compare features and determine their importance, such as the symmetrical uncertainty (SU)[2]. SU is a measure based on information that uses entropy and conditional entropy values to determine the correlation between pairs of features.

Autonomous drone network prepares to fly over Switzerland
An autonomous drone delivery network will deliver blood across Switzerland starting next month in a world first. The permanent network will see flying robot couriers shuttling blood and pathology samples between hospital labs and clinics. The drones will launch from stations that automatically replace the batteries and cargo, which is boxed by humans before flight and retrieved using a smartphone. Medical samples can be delivered to urban hospitals within 30 minutes, Matternet, the company behind the networks, claims. Machine Learning Lends a Hand for Automated Software Testing - The New Stack
Automated testing is increasingly important in development, especially for finding security issues, but fuzz testing requires a high level of expertise -- and the sheer volume of code developers are working with, from third-party components to open source frameworks and projects, makes it hard to test every line of code. Now, a set of artificial intelligence-powered options like Microsoft's Security Risk Detection service and Diffblue's security scanner and test generation tools aim to make these techniques easier, faster and accessible to more developers. "If you ask developers what the most hated aspect of their job is, it's testing and debugging," Diffblue CEO and University of Oxford Professor of Computer Science Daniel Kroening told the New Stack. The Diffblue tools use generic algorithms to generate possible tests, and reinforcement learning combined with a solver search to make sure that the code it's giving you is the shortest possible program, which forces the machine learning system to generalize rather than stick to just the examples in its training set. "What we have built is something that does that for you. If you give us a Java program, which could be class files or compiled Java bytecode, we give you back a bunch of Java code in the form of tests for your favorite testing framework," Kroening said.
On the Optimality of Kernel-Embedding Based Goodness-of-Fit Tests

The reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS) embedding of distributions offers a general and flexible framework for testing problems in arbitrary domains and has attracted considerable amount of attention in recent years. To gain insights into their operating characteristics, we study here the statistical performance of such approaches within a minimax framework. Focusing on the case of goodness-of-fit tests, our analyses show that a vanilla version of the kernel-embedding based test could be suboptimal, and suggest a simple remedy by moderating the embedding. We prove that the moderated approach provides optimal tests for a wide range of deviations from the null and can also be made adaptive over a large collection of interpolation spaces. Numerical experiments are presented to further demonstrate the merits of our approach.
Amazon order made by parrot after it uses Alexa
A pet owner was stunned after her parrot managed to shop online using Amazon's Alexa voice recognition software. Corienne Pretorius, 39, was baffled after a £10 order for gift boxes, which she had not ordered, arrived at her house. The mother-of-one questioned her husband Jan, 45, a civil engineer, and son Jaden, eight, but quickly realised the culprit was Buddy - their African Grey parrot. Ms Pretorius, from Greenwich, south east London, says the cheeky bird mimics her voice, and must have activated her smart Amazon Echo device to place the strange order. The Future of the Firm in Professional Services
At the low end, we will surely see the rise of self-service platforms, perhaps in some cases tapping directly into flows of client data for accounting and audit, and this will open up a lot of competitive innovation as clients realise they can shape the offering provided by professionals, rather than just accept the customary service. But at the higher end, there is a good chance that small teams of entrepreneurial professionals who know how to get the most out of their AI systems will be able to handle large and complex transactions or matters for their clients. Whilst it is reasonably straightforward to think of positive futures for professionals, the question of what this means for the firm is a slightly different one. Where firms can aggregate analytical power and develop a platform to extend their value proposition both internally and externally, or develop compelling brands and service delivery models that clients trust, then there remains a strong case to be made for their continued existence. But it is unlikely that they will continue with the current model or way of working, which does not add sufficient value to the work of individual professionals, except perhaps in the most complex of matters where co-ordination of various internal disciplines is needed.

Danes arrest man for allegedly sending drones, cameras to IS
COPENHAGEN, Denmark – A Copenhagen court has jailed a man for 25 days under Denmark's anti-terror laws for allegedly shipping drones, components for unmanned aerial vehicles and infrared cameras that were bound for the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq. Police say the 28-year-old man was held on "strong suspicion" of taking part in terrorist activities abroad by purchasing and shipping the equipment via Turkey. A 29-year-old woman who was arrested with him on Thursday has been released. It is unclear if she remains a suspect. Police said a 31-year-old man who is believed to be in Turkey was being sought on an international arrest warrant Friday on suspicion he received the shipped items.
