Founded in Silicon Valley in 2009, Health 2.0 is a international organization dedicated to health innovation and made up of 90 chapters. The Berlin chapter has over 1000 members from healthcare, insurance companies, the pharmaceutical industry, startups, and eHealth enthusiasts. On October 25th, 120 interested people gathered at Spielfeld in Kreuzberg, Berlin to hear a forecast of the German healthcare system over the next 3 years. The Berlin Health 2.0 chapter event panel represented a wide spectrum of players in German healthcare: Yvonne Grรผndler from a totally new digital private health insurance company; Jonas Pendzialek, a consultant for digital health transformation of public insurance; Markus Dahlem who cofounded an app for headache treatment; and pharmaceutical veteran, Dr. Hardy Kietzman. Together they painted a picture that was both encouraging and honest.
Rubik s Cube records broken in 4.59 seconds
A 23-year-old'professional speedcuber' has set a new world record by completing a Rubik's Cube in just 4.59 seconds. Korean SeungBeom Cho solved the 3D puzzle in his first round at the World Cube Association's ChicaGhosts 2017 event in Chicago, smashing his previous personal best of 6.54 seconds. Footage of Mr Cho's attempt shows him given just a few seconds to examine the cube before starting, completing it just moments later. A series of UK records have been broken by quick-fingered Rubik's Cube solvers at the UK championships held in Stevenage, Hertfordshire on Sunday. Competitors as young as seven tackled the notoriously tricky cubes one-handed, blindfolded and even with their feet in a bid to become the top gamers of the weekend.
New artificial intelligence can detect colorectal cancer in less than a second, researchers say
Japanese researchers created a system that could detect and assess colorectal polyps in less than a second. Japanese researchers demonstrated an artificial intelligence capable of identifying and analyzing polyps found during a colonoscopy in less than a second. The computer-assisted diagnostic system was revealed during the United European Gastroenterology Week, running through Wednesday in Barcelona, Spain. The endoscopic system uses a magnified view of a colorectal polyp to study its features and compare it with 30,000 endocytoscopic images used for machine learning. Researchers said they were able to predict the pathology of the polyp in less than a second, with 86% accuracy, based on a study assessing more than 300 polyps. "The most remarkable breakthrough with this system is that artificial intelligence enables real-time optical biopsy of colorectal polyps during colonoscopy, regardless of the endoscopists' skill," said Dr. Yuichi Mori, a researcher from Showa University in Yokohama, Japan and study lead, in a statement.

Experts have argued that'loot boxes' in video games are a form of gambling. One psychologist has said that the boxes, which regularly appear in games for children and can be bought with real money, are'literally slot machines'. Loot boxes feature in many modern games, including popular shooter Overwatch and football simulator Fifa 18, which are rated PEGI 12 and 3 respectively in the UK. The boxes are regularly given to players when they level up or accomplish certain tasks, and when opened give users a random in-game reward. On top of boxes earned through playing, gamers can also buy them with real money, causing some to argue publishers are using the same tactics as casinos to take thousands from gamers every year.
Online dating couple 'plotted bombing'
A couple who met on a dating website have gone on trial accused of plotting a terror attack using a homemade bomb. Munir Mohammed, 36, of Leopold Street, Derby, allegedly volunteered for a "new job in the UK", via Facebook with a man he believed was an IS commander. The Old Bailey heard he met pharmacist Rowaida El-Hassan, 33, of Willesden Lane, north-west London, online and she provided chemical expertise. Both deny the charge of preparing terrorist acts. At the time of his arrest in December, Mr Mohammed had two of the three elements of explosives, the jury was told.

Artificial intelligence: Is this the future of early cancer detection?
A new endoscopic system powered by artificial intelligence (AI) has today been shown to automatically identify colorectal adenomas during colonoscopy. The system, developed in Japan, has recently been tested in one of the first prospective trials of AI-assisted endoscopy in a clinical setting, with the results presented today at the 25th UEG Week in Barcelona, Spain. The new computer-aided diagnostic system uses an endocytoscopic image - a 500-fold magnified view of a colorectal polyp - to analyse approximately 300 features of the polyp after applying narrow-band imaging (NBI) mode or staining with methylene blue. The system compares the features of each polyp against more than 30,000 endocytoscopic images that were used for machine learning, allowing it to predict the lesion pathology in less than a second. Preliminary studies demonstrated the feasibility of using such a system to classify colorectal polyps, however, until today, no prospective studies have been reported.
Tekcapital acquires patent for technology that controls cars, trucks and drones using artificial intelligence
Tekcapital PLC (LON:TEK) has licensed a patent developed by the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University that could be the backbone of software for autonomously controlling cars, trucks and drones using artificial intelligence. The company, which is wrapping the intellectual property into its Guident business, says the technology may one day be used to develop an app that will dispatch vehicles to find a parking spots and then retrieve them again. Ford chief executive Jim Hackett spoke recently of solving that exact problem. "You waste more time trying to find a parking place than you do being stuck in traffic," he said. "That's because you're trying to match the open parking place with where the car needs to go. We have a dream where they can actually tell each other that. The car and the parking spot are talking to each other. The autonomous vehicles market is forecast to grow at a compound annual rate of almost 40% in the next 10 years and is expected to be worth US$127bn by 2027. No financial details of the Tekcapital patent deal were given. Artificial Intelligence system can turn low-resolution images into HD versions
Scientists have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) system that can create a high- definition version of a low resolution image. Technology to create a large-sized image from a low- resolution image is known as single-image super-resolution (SISR) technology. SISR has been studied for decades, but with limited results. Software adds extra pixels and averages them with the surrounding pixels, but the result is blurriness. Researchers at the Max Planck Institute of Intelligent Systems in Germany proposed a new approach to give images a realistic texture when magnified from small to large using machine learning.
