Dictionary-based Tensor Canonical Polyadic Decomposition

To ensure interpretability of extracted sources in tensor decomposition, we introduce in this paper a dictionarybased tensor canonical polyadic decomposition which enforces one factor to belong exactly to a known dictionary. A new formulation of sparse coding is proposed which enables high dimensional tensors dictionary-based canonical polyadic decomposition. The benefits of using a dictionary in tensor decomposition models are explored both in terms of parameter identifiability and estimation accuracy. Performances of the proposed algorithms are evaluated on the decomposition of simulated data and the unmixing of hyperspectral images. Multi-Period Flexibility Forecast for Low Voltage Prosumers

Near-future electric distribution grids operation will have to rely on demand-side flexibility, both by implementation of demand response strategies and by taking advantage of the intelligent management of increasingly common small-scale energy storage. The Home energy management system (HEMS), installed at low voltage residential clients, will play a crucial role on the flexibility provision to both system operators and market players like aggregators. Modeling and forecasting multi-period flexibility from residential prosumers, such as battery storage and electric water heater, while complying with internal constraints (comfort levels, data privacy) and uncertainty is a complex task. This papers describes a computational method that is capable of efficiently learn and define the feasibility flexibility space from controllable resources connected to a HEMS. An Evolutionary Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO) algorithm is adopted and reshaped to derive a set of feasible temporal trajectories for the residential net-load, considering storage, flexible appliances, and predefined costumer preferences, as well as load and photovoltaic (PV) forecast uncertainty. A support vector data description (SVDD) algorithm is used to build models capable of classifying feasible and non-feasible HEMS operating trajectories upon request from an optimization/control algorithm operated by a DSO or market player.
America's first ever fleet of self-driving cars hits the road
The driver-less future of transportation could be arriving soon in Phoenix. Autonomous vehicle company Waymo, a division of Google's parent company Alphabet, has launched a fleet of self-driving cars without backup drivers in Arizona. The company's chief executive John Krafcik said customers will soon be able to hop rides. "Fully self-driving cars are here", Mr Krafcik said during a tech conference in Lisbon, Portugal, lauding the development as "a big step forward to achieving our ultimate goal: safer roads, and better access to transportation for all". According to Waymo, some cars that have already been plying roads in the Phoenix area have now been switched to fully automatic mode -- meaning there is no test driver behind the wheel. The company said it is removing that safeguard after its autonomous vehicles have test-driven some 3.5 million miles.

Waymo launching driverless ride-hailing service in Phoenix
Alphabet Inc's Waymo self-driving unit is launching a ride-hailing service for the general public with no human driver behind the steering wheel. And, the firm has been testing such fully self-driving cars on public roads in Arizona, Chief Executive John Krafcik said on Tuesday. The announcement by Krafcik at the Web Summit technology conference in Lisbon is a major advance in the roll-out of fully autonomous vehicles. The firm recently unveiled a self-driving minivan that it hopes could revolutionize the way we travel. It showed off the technology at the closely-guarded'fake town' dubbed The Castle, 120 miles southeast of San Francisco While self-driving car companies test their vehicles in public, they routinely have a human in the driver's seat ready to take over if the technology fails.
Germany's Daimler unveils new "Ask Mercedes" chatbot
German luxury car maker Daimler is set to combine a range of digital customer support experiments into a single voice-activated app that is available whether users are driving their cars, sitting at home or on the go. Chief digital officer Sabine Scheunert said on Tuesday that Daimler will soon introduce a digital assistant called'Ask Mercedes' that ties together previous trial projects on platforms such as Google and Facebook. Scheunert said'Ask Mercedes' will be available in several markets and languages immediately before being rolled out globally, without providing further details. 'Ask Mercedes is a new cognitive assistant available any time to support customers in exploring all the functions of their Mercedes-Benz vehicles,'the firm said at the Lisbon Web Summit. Mercedes is one of Daimler's leading car brands.

Hawking explained that to avoid this potential reality, creators of AI need to "employ best practice and effective management." The scientist highlighted some of the legislative work being carried out in Europe, particularly proposals put forward by lawmakers earlier this year to establish new rules around AI and robotics. Members of the European Parliament said European Union-wide rules were needed on the matter. Such developments are giving Hawking hope. "I am an optimist and I believe that we can create AI for the good of the world. That it can work in harmony with us. We simply need to be aware of the dangers, identify them, employ the best possible practice and management, and prepare for its consequences well in advance," Hawking said.
