AI method can distinguish smiles based on gender: Study
Scientists have developed a new method based on artificial intelligence (AI) for mapping the dynamics of a smile that can automatically distinguish between men and women. Researchers from the University of Bradford in the UK mapped 49 landmarks on the face, mainly around the eyes, mouth and down the nose. They used these to assess how the face changes as we smile caused by the underlying muscle movements – including both changes in distances between the different points and the'flow' of the smile: how much, how far and how fast the different points on the face moved as the smile was formed. They then tested whether there were noticeable differences between men and women – and found that there were, with women's smiles being more expansive. "Anecdotally, women are thought to be more expressive in how they smile, and our research has borne this out. Women definitely have broader smiles, expanding their mouth and lip area far more than men," said Professor Hassan Ugail from the University of Bradford.

Hope for millions after life-saving AI is revealed
Prostate cancer can be diagnosed by new AI just as accurately as any doctor potentially saving millions of lives, new research suggests. Chinese scientists and doctors have developed an artificial intelligence system which they say can accurately diagnose and identify cancerous samples. Experts say it could streamline and eliminate variation in cancer diagnosis and will be particularly useful in areas where there is a lack of trained pathologists. It could also lead to prostate cancer diagnosis being automated in the future. Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer, with more than a million new cases ever year worldwide.

Just as researchers make great strides in the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), Prof Hawkingt leaves behind plenty of warnings on machine-based learning humanity should still take notice of. While Prof Hawking admitted that AI could be used for good, he also stated that humans need to find a way to control it so that it does not become more powerful than us as "computers can, in theory, emulate human intelligence, and exceed it." Looking at the positives, Prof Hawking said AI could help undo some of the damage that humans have inflicted on the natural world, help beat disease and "transform" every aspect of society. But, there are negatives that come with it, he warned.

At the Orlando International Airport, Britain-bound passengers -- some wearing Mickey Mouse T-shirts and other Disney paraphernalia -- lined up at Gate 80 recently for the evening British Airways flight to London's Gatwick Airport. It looks like any other airport departure area, except for the two small gates with what look like small boxes on posts next to them. Those boxes are actually cameras. They were installed earlier this month by SITA, the Geneva-based company that develops information technology for the world's airlines, in conjunction with British Airways and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or CBP.
Prime minister wants Finland to adopt Artificial Intelligence at scale
Finland's prime minister Juha Sipilä has said that the country's legislation must be changed so that it will allow experimenting with Artificial Intelligence technologies faster. Talking in Turku the politician sees that Finland must already think of the next hundred years, just after it's centennial anniversary in 2017. He believeves that adopting Artificial Intelligence at scale in different fields will be key in the future. Currently one of the Nordic country's strengths is it's heavy industry, like shipyards and automotive industry in the Southwest Finland. Both are being receiving continuous investment, with the Turku shipyard training programme and expansion of the Mercedes-Benz production in Uusikaupunki.

Social media giants zoning in on far-right extremism as Facebook bans Britain First
Facebook's decision to remove the accounts of far-right political group Britain First and its leaders is the latest instance of social media companies cracking down on hate speech after initially expressing a reluctance to engage in censorship. The company took action days after Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen were jailed for anti-Muslim hate crimes. Facebook stressed that it remains an "open platform for all ideas and political speech" but said: "There are times though when legitimate political speech crosses the line and becomes hate speech designed to stir up hatred against groups in our society." It added that content posted on the Britain First Facebook page and those of Golding and Fransen had "repeatedly broken our community standards. It said: "We recently gave the administrators of the pages a written final warning, and they have continued to post content that violates our community standards.
