Government, Tech Firms Invest ยฃ1bn Into British AI Industry Silicon UK
The British government and the private sector have both contributed to a ยฃ1 billion deal that seeks to place the UK at the head of the artificial intelligence industry. The deal includes almost ยฃ300 million from more than 50 technology companies, and will be coupled with 1,000 new government funded AI PhDs to help drive the UK's research expertise. It comes after the European Commission last week called for a 20 billion euro (ยฃ17bn) investment in artificial intelligence across the European Union in order to catch up with Chinese and US research. It also comes after a recent report by the House of Lords, which proposed a list of recommendations for the UK to become a global leader in AI innovation. That report concluded that the UK is uniquely positioned to shape the development of artificial intelligence, but a code of ethics is needed so it benefits mankind.

So criminals trying to get their hands on the bank details of the casino's wealthiest gamblers were able to hack into the network via the aquarium.

"These give us a glimpse of what the future of the whole NHS could be, which is why in the year of the NHS' 70th birthday I want to empower staff to offer patients modern healthcare more widely and more quickly." AI developers: don't forget ethics London Business School
Human biases can become part of the technology people create, according to Nicos Savva, Associate Professor of Management Science and Operations at London Business School. A recent House of Lords Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence (AI) "AI in the UK: Ready, Willing and Able?" urged people using and developing AI to put ethics centre stage. The committee suggested a cross-sector AI Code, with five principles that could be applied globally including that artificial intelligence should "be developed for the common good and benefit of humanity" and should "operate on principles of intelligibility and fairness". The committee's chairman, Lord Clement-Jones, said in a statement: "The UK has a unique opportunity to shape AI positively for the public's benefit and to lead the international community in AI's ethical development, rather than passively accept its consequences." He added that "AI is not without its risks".

So it will be welcome news to newshounds in Europe โ and elsewhere โ that a new โฌ3.9m European research project called Journalism and Leadership Transformation (JOLT) is to be launched to investigate technical, business, and ethical aspects of contemporary journalism. Funded for the next four years, the project will be led by Dublin City University's (DCU) Institute for Future Media and Journalism (FuJo) and will see 15 PhD researchers hired to conduct the research.
