Need to collaborate with UK, Japan, Germany in artificial intelligence: Report - Times of India
NEW DELHI: The government should drive cross-border collaboration on artificial intelligence research with countries like Japan, UK, Germany, Singapore, Israel and China to develop solutions that tackle social and economic challenges, a report said today. The Ministry of External Affairs and Department of Science and Technology (DST) may take the lead in developing such relationships, suggested the Assocham-PwC joint study. It observed that forming cooperative relationships with some of the front-runners such as Japan, the UK, Germany, Singapore, Israel and China to develop solutions that tackle social and economic challenges can aid and accelerate strategy formulation in artificial intelligence, machine learning and other new-age technologies in India. "Exchanging best practices and learning from prior initiatives is one way of strengthening cooperation," noted the study. The study also suggested that policy planning in artificial intelligence (AI) must be aimed at creating an ecosystem that is supportive of research, innovation and commercialisation of applications.

Meet the Artificial Intelligence System That Can Predict the Future
The artificial intelligence system was developed by researchers from the University of Bonn in Germany. According to reports, it can accurately predict what a person will do next within the next few minutes. That is if the past and the next few minutes will involve cooking. According to the study that will be presented at the IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition later this month, the researchers trained their machine learning algorithm for hours using videos of people cooking breakfast foods and preparing salads. This led the AI system to predict the next steps in preparing salad recipes when it sees a person doing one.

It's fine when Google finishes your sentences when typing into a search bar, but this new technology might be able to recognize patterns in human behavior and perform tasks before you've even thought about asking. Like most tasks performed by artificial intelligence, this ability is tied to machine learning and neural networks. In the course of their research, a team from the University of Bonn in Germany tried out two models for their networks: one that made predictions and "reflected" before making new more, and one that was based on a matrix structure. Both networks were shown videos of people making relatively simple food dishes (especially breakfasts and salad) with the goal of teaching them to predict what the chef was going to do next.
