Xbox Live down: Problems with sign in continue after major outage
Xbox Live is still not working properly, hours after a major outage. The company addressed a major outage overnight that stopped people entirely from signing in. But those issues are still ongoing, according to the website Down Detector. It reported a major uptick in issues over the morning, as people struggled to get back online. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph.

I want to boycott US PC hardware, software and services. Is it possible?
If I wanted to show my distaste for the direction the US is going by boycotting American PC hardware, software and services, could it be done? You could certainly eliminate a lot of American products, but you might be giving up features without getting any ethical benefits. For example, more than a billion people already manage without a lot of American technology because they live in China or Russia. While I share your distaste for the Trump regime, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin are not exactly choirboys. And while Trump is scapegoating immigrants, more than half of America's top technology companies were co-founded by immigrants or the children of immigrants.
The Danger of Bias in an Al Tech Based Society
Currently, algorithms are used to make life-altering financial and legal decisions like who gets a job, what medical treatment people receive, and who gets granted parole. In theory, this should lead to fairer decision making. In reality, AI tech can be just as biased as the humans who create it. We are living in the age of the algorithm. More and more we are handing decision making over to mathematical models.

New interactive machine learning tool makes car designs more aerodynamic
When engineers or designers want to test the aerodynamic properties of the newly designed shape of a car, airplane, or other object, they would normally model the flow of air around the object by having a computer solve a complex set of equations--a procedure that usually takes hours, or even an entire day. Nobuyuki Umetani from Autodesk research (now at the University of Tokyo) and Bernd Bickel from the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria) have now significantly sped up this process, making streamlines and parameters available in real time. Their method, which is the first to use machine learning to model flow around continuously editable 3-D objects, will be presented at this year's prestigious SIGGRAPH conference in Vancouver, where IST Austria researchers are involved in a total of five presentations. Machine learning can make extremely time-consuming methods a lot faster. Before, the computation of the aerodynamic properties of cars usually took a day.
Uber's Second-Quarter Sales Rise 63% With Narrower Loss
The San Francisco-based company's second-quarter revenue rose 63% from the prior year to $2.8 billion, while gross bookings, a measure of the overall demand for its ride and delivery services, jumped 41% to about $12 billion, according to a financial statement released by Uber. The company narrowed its loss to $891 million in the second quarter from $1.1 billion a year ago. The loss was, however, wider than the $550 million loss in the first quarter of this year, not including a $3 billion gain from the sales of its southeast Asian and Russian operations. The company is spending more money on new businesses such as food delivery and scooters, according to an Uber spokesman. Mr. Khosrowshahi, who replaced ousted Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick last August, has worked to cut expenses at the ride-hailing company in preparation for an initial public offering. This year, he has sold divisions such as the money-losing U.S. car leasing business to Fair.com and its southeast Asian operations to rival Grab Inc.
An elementary introduction to information geometry
We present a concise and modern view of the basic structures lying at the heart of Information Geometry (IG), and report some applications of those information-geometric manifolds (termed "information manifolds") in statistics (Bayesian hypothesis testing) and machine learning (statistical mixture clustering). By analogy to Information Theory (IT) pioneered by Claude Shannon [62] (in 1948) which considers primarily the communication of messages over noisy transmission channels, we may define Information Sciences as the fields that study "communication" between (noisy/imperfect) data and families of models (postulated as a priori knowledge). In short, Information Sciences (IS) seek methods to distill information from data to models. Thus, information sciences encompass information theory but also include Probability & Statistics, Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Mathematical Programming, just to name a few areas. In §5.2, we review some key milestones of information geometry and report some definitions of the field by its pioneers. A modern and broad definition of information geometry can be stated as the field that studies the geometry of decision making. This definition also includes model fitting (inference) that can be interpreted as a decision problem as illustrated in Figure 1: Namely, deciding which model parameter to choose from a family of parametric models. This framework was advocated by Abraham Wald [72, 73, 17] who considered all statistical problems as statistical decision problems. Distances play a crucial role not only for measuring the goodness-of-fit of data to model (say, likelihood in statistics, classifier loss functions in ML, objective functions in mathematical programming, etc.) but also for measuring the discrepancy (or deviance) between models.

Abstract--Autonomous Vehicles(AV) are one of the brightest promises of the future which would help cut down fatalities and improve travel time while working in harmony. Autonomous vehicles will face with challenging situations and experiences not seen before. These experiences should be converted to knowledge and help the vehicle prepare better in the future. Online Transfer Learning will help transferring prior knowledge to a new task and also keep the knowledge updated as the task evolves. This paper presents the different methods of transfer learning, online transfer learning and organic computing that could be adapted to the domain of autonomous vehicles. Autonomous Vehicles(AV) or Driver-less Cars are one of the most widely discussed emerging technology in the present day. An autonomous vehicle can be explained as a vehicle that adapts to its surroundings and can navigate itself by sensing its environment and minimal human input.
