Audi: Autonomous cars alone won't solve traffic jams

It's easy to think that once cars start driving themselves most of our traffic woes will be eliminated. Robocars are supposed to be better drivers and better driving should mean less gridlock. Unfortunately, that drop in bumper to bumper hell won't be as big as we all hoped, according to Audi's research. At Audi's Charged event (where it will unveil the E-Tron), the automaker gave Engadget a sneak peek at its latest 25th Hour Flow research. The company (along with Karlsruhe Institute for Technology and Munich's MobilityPartners) peered into the future to see how drivers and passengers can reclaim time thanks to autonomous driving and mobility options. During this year's research, Audi looked at traffic flow in Ingolstadt, Germany the home of its headquarters.

Fortnite is addictive, of that there is no doubt. But reports that it is so addictive it has caused at least 200 divorces are a little overstated. Numerous reports – published by just about every news major news organisation – have recently claimed that some 5 per cent of divorces are being caused by the online game. They all cited a website called Divorce Online, which provides tools to people who are splitting up and need legal advice. Artificial intelligence can determine lung cancer type

Led by researchers at NYU School of Medicine and published online in Nature Medicine, the study found that a type of artificial intelligence (AI), or "machine learning" program, could distinguish with 97 percent accuracy between adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma--two lung cancer types that experienced pathologists at times struggle to parse without confirmatory tests. The AI tool was also able to determine whether abnormal versions of 6 genes linked to lung cancer--including EGFR, KRAS, and TP53--were present in cells, with an accuracy that ranged from 73 to 86 percent depending on the gene. Such genetic changes or mutations often cause the abnormal growth seen in cancer, but can also change a cell's shape and interactions with its surroundings, providing visual clues for automated analysis. Determining which genes are changed in each tumor has become vital with the increased use of targeted therapies that work only against cancer cells with specific mutations, researchers say.

Hate speech-detecting AIs easily fooled by humans: Study

Artificial intelligence (AI) systems meant to screen out online hate speech can be easily duped by humans, a study has found. Hateful text and comments are an ever-increasing problem in online environments, yet addressing the rampant issue relies on being able to identify toxic content. Researchers from Aalto University in Finland have discovered weaknesses in many machine learning detectors currently used to recognise and keep hate speech at bay. Many popular social media and online platforms use hate speech detectors. Robots and artificial intelligence will take over HALF of all tasks in the workplace by 2025

More than half of all tasks in the workplace tasks will be carried out by machines by 2025. That's according to the World Economic Forum, which predicts that AI and robots will kill off 75 million jobs worldwide by 2022. The Swiss nonprofit also claims as many as 133 million new jobs will be created by machines in that time frame. Humans will have to revamp skills to keep pace with the'seismic shift' in how we work with machines, it said. More than half of all tasks in the workplace tasks will be carried out by machines by 2025.
