Private and public sector organisations, across Europe, will be able to utilise the recently opened AI lab to improve services and products. In the AI lab – formed as part of a global partnership between Atos and Google Cloud – organisations will be able to use AI technologies to define and design use cases relevant to their needs. For example, using connected sensors in the supply chain of an energy company to create safer and more efficient operations, or using data analytics and machine learning algorithms to reduce fraud in financial services. Of all the industries set to be impacted by artificial intelligence and machine learning, the healthcare sector stands to gain the most. Often hindered by legacy infrastructure and disparate data sets from hundreds, or thousands of different sources, healthcare needs AI. Coming from a telecommunications background, I thought the balance should be restored.

I feel that there was a sort of explosion a couple of years ago after which the whole topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI) suddenly sprang into a wider audience's consciousness. All of a sudden we had Siri, Amazon's Alexa and we started talking about self-driving cars. Jaan Tallinn, how did it happen? There were two different explosions. I believe that a lot of the latter had to do with the works of Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking. Most importantly, the former was the revolution of deep learning.

Facebook has removed accounts, pages and apps linked to firms which build facial recognition software for the Russian government. The social media giant announced on Thursday it had removed 66 accounts associated with SocialDataHub and its sister firm Fubutech. It said the companies had violated Facebook policy by scraping data from the social network. 'Facebook has reason to believe your work for the government has included matching photos from individuals' personal social media accounts in order to identify them,' the company said in a cease-and-desist letter to SocialDataHub, The New York Times reported. The companies involved, which share 52 employees in Moscow, were reportedly given until yesterday to confirm what data they had taken and delete it.

Business spending on cognitive systems will jump an estimated 54% in 2018. Companies continue to invest in artificial intelligence (AI). Doing so means they could boost revenues by 38% within five years. This would also raise employment by 10 percent. By 2030, AI could bump up the global GDP by $15.7 trillion, or a 14% increase.

The Wales-based company with an office in North Charleston has a workforce of hundreds of receptionists. Receptionists have a dedicated list of clients, but they work out of Moneypenny offices. The rise of automation has led experts and workers to debate whether robots will steal jobs, augment employees, free them up to do more complex tasks, or some combination thereof. While potential benefits of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution include more productive work and employees, this technology could also lead to upheaval in the job market, according to a recent report from SmartAsset. And certain states will feel the impact more than others, the report found. The report examined data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics and Oxford University, comparing the jobs most likely to be impacted by automation to the number of workers holding those occupations in each state, to determine the vulnerability of each state's working population. The American South faces the most trouble, the report found, with several of those states making the top 10.
