Premier League predictions 2026-27: BBC Sport pundits pick their top four

BBC News

Arsenal ended a 22-year wait to be Premier League champions last season, but can they successfully defend their crown? That is the next target for Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, whose side finished seven points clear of nearest rivals Manchester City last time out. So, who will challenge them in 2026-27? We asked 26 BBC TV and radio pundits to pick their top four, with explanations for their selections. We've also asked AI's opinion, and included what Opta's'supercomputer' came up with too. The AI prediction was generated using Microsoft Copilot Chat - we simply asked the tool to predict the Premier League table for the 2026-27 season. Opta's'supercomputer' is actually a complex algorithm that uses a model based on betting market odds and the sports analytics company's own'power rankings', which are calculated using past results. It has simulated the outcome of all 380 Premier League games 10,000 times and came to the same conclusion as AI, and three of the pundits. Disagree with our expert humans or think you know more than any machine? You can make your own top-four prediction, and forecast the rest of the Premier League table, at the bottom of this page.

Google is trying to solve contrails with AI

Engadget

Google and the UK government are collaborating on a project to test whether airplanes can avoid creating contrails. The project, called Operation Blue Skies, will conduct the trial over Shanwick airspace, which sits above the northeastern Atlantic Ocean. Contrails are the long white streaks in the sky left by jet engines. Most often created in cold, humid air, they form when water vapor condenses and freezes around aircraft exhaust. Researchers estimate that they contribute to about one-third of aviation's total climate impact.

Coders Say They Already Found Workarounds to Claude's Invisible Watermarks

WIRED

Coders Say They Already Found Workarounds to Claude's Invisible Watermarks Anthropic announced last week it would include invisible watermarks in AI-generated content to comply with new EU rules. Within hours, overrides were being touted online. Within four hours of Anthropic confirming that Claude models would globally embed invisible, machine-readable watermarks into any AI-generated content, developer Guillaume Meyer had published his override. His code to remove watermarks from Claude-generated text has since gone viral on GitHub, has been bookmarked more than 20,000 times on X, and has drawn more than 100 contributors, with many more incorporating the technology into their own projects. "Anthropic is embedding watermarks in its Claude texts the issue is practically history just one day later," wrote one AI specialist, accompanied by an image of Meyer breaking out of chains and standing on crumpled EU and Anthropic flags.
