The US has withdrawn all of its bombers from RAF Fairford, the British military base at the centre of an incident being investigated by counter terror police. A statement from a US department official confirmed on Sunday it had removed all of its bombers from the base back to their home stations in America. The US did not give a reason for the withdrawal, but it follows a major incident on 27 September when police were alerted to three suspicious vehicles near the airbase in Gloucestershire. Five men were initially arrested on suspicion of terror offences near the base and subsequently released on police bail. A sixth man, a UK-Iranian national, was also later arrested and released on bail.

Up to 500 schools across France will be partially or totally closed on Monday after clashes between riot police and student protesters in recent days, the French education minister said on Sunday. Lessons will be totally or partly suspended in some 400 to 500 high schools as security conditions have not been fulfilled, Édouard Geffray said. He also said 24 schools had been burned or ransacked since the start of the protests. Thousands of students have been demonstrating over education standards and the protests, which started last week, have spread from Paris to other cities, including Montpellier, Nantes and Marseille. High school pupils and others have objected to a lack of teachers, overcrowded classrooms and run-down buildings.

A 12-year-old girl was killed in Baltimore over the weekend during an apparent disagreement over a parking space, police in the US city said. The girl was caught in the crossfire of bullets between two men who police said were allegedly fighting over a parking space in a park where children were playing American football. In addition to the young girl, a woman was also found with gunshot wounds when police arrived on the scene. Two men also visited area hospitals for injuries believed to be related to the shooting, police said.

Three female journalists have accused police officers in India of sexual harassment during street protests in the capital Delhi. The claims were made on Saturday after the force detained scores of young people calling for the resignation of the chief election commissioner. In a post on social media, Delhi Police said its New Delhi District had received the complaint, and it had been transferred to its crime branch for a fair and impartial inquiry. Thousands of protesters gathered in Delhi and Mumbai cities for a third day on Sunday demanding that Gyanesh Kumar step down over large-scale changes to voter rolls. The Election Commission says the exercise is intended to remove duplicate and ineligible entries - and so far, 130 million names have been struck off the voters' list.

Green Party members back'Zionism is racism' motion Green Party members have adopted a motion declaring Zionism a form of racism, in a move that has divided senior figures at the top of the party. The party's joint deputy leaders have been at odds over the subject, with Mothin Ali backing the move, and Rachel Millward describing the wording as problematic. Activists endorsed the policy motion, which was put forward by a group of members at the party's conference in Brighton, by 1022 votes to 813. Discussion about the vote has dominated the conference, and exposed divisions between the party's newly enlarged membership base under leader Zack Polanski and its MPs elected at the last election. The motion adopted by Green members defines Zionism as an ideology in support of an ethnonationalist Jewish state and backs a single democratic Palestinian state in all of historic Palestine. The real, material, manifestation of Zionism has been the historic and ongoing dehumanisation, displacement, dispossession, disenfranchisement and destruction of Palestinians, it says.

A US Marine has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman's body was found in a hotel in Okinawa, Japan, local officials say. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi described the crime as a brutal and heinous robbery and murder. She said she had urged the US to enforce stricter discipline of its personnel. Japan's public broadcaster NHK identified the victim as Yagi Anna, 39, and the suspect as Devin Jacob Ballard, 20, who is stationed at US Marine Corps Air Station Futenma. We are actively cooperating with Japanese authorities, in response to allegations of serious criminal actions by a Marine, the Marine Corps said on social media, extending condolences to the victim's family.

Yemen's government announces all-out war to reclaim land from Houthis The head of Yemen's internationally recognised government has announced it will wage an all out war in an effort to take all territory held by the Houthis. It follows an exchange of strikes between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition in recent days. The Iran-backed group said it had struck sites belonging to Saudi national oil company Aramco, in response to what it described as 50 Saudi-led coalition strikes in 12 hours. Saudi Arabia has yet to comment. The Yemeni government's fierce statement was expected after the Houthis' offensive last month, which saw them seize control of the country's coastline, including the vital shipping lane of the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
