Accenture ties up with IITs for research into Artificial Intelligence - The Economic Times
MUMBAI: Accenture has entered into a joint research collaboration with IIT Bombay and IIT Patna focused on the different application aspects of Artificial Intelligence. The research, focused on IT services and social good, will look at augmenting software engineers with powerful Artificial Intelligence insights and recommendation for improved productivity. The focus areas of the program includes research in natural language processing, machine learning, neural network, virtual agents, deep learning and other areas of artificial intelligence. It will include software analytics - building, testing, managing and modernization of applications, solving real life social issues such as malnutrition, human trafficking, climate, etc. through prediction and recommendation models, using Artificial Intelligence. "One of the major areas that the research will focus on is natural language processing," said Pushpak Bhattacharyya, director, IIT Patna.

Remarks at the SASE Panel On The Moral Economy of Tech
This is the text version of remarks I gave on June 26, 2016, at a panel on the Moral Economy of Tech at the SASE conference in Berkeley. The other panel participants were Kieran Healy, Stuart Russell and AnnaLee Saxenian. We were each asked to speak for ten minutes, to an audience of social scientists. I am only a small minnow in the technology ocean, but since it is my natural habitat, I want to make an effort to describe it to you. As computer programmers, our formative intellectual experience is working with deterministic systems that have been designed by other human beings. These can be very complex, but the complexity is not the kind we find in the natural world.
Incheon airport to get a high-tech makeover
LG Electronics and Incheon International Airport Corporation have joined forces to upgrade the nation's largest international airport to what is billed as a smarter and more tech-savvy one. The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding Friday which says LG Electronics will deploy automated robots and Internet of Things technology to facilities at the airport. Among the new services are robots that will stroll around the airport giving directions to airport newcomers. The guide service will be provided in Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese. Some of the robots will clean the floors, organize luggage and check security.

AI beats a human fighter pilot in an air combat simulator
Artificial Intelligence or AI as it popularly called is surely and steadily working its way to become more like humans. We have had an AI which injured its host will fully while another AI robot ran out of its enclosure in Russia. Now another AI has successfully managed to beat an ace fighter pilot in a combat simulation. Recently, an artificial intelligence (AI) named ALPHA developed by a University of Cincinnati doctoral graduate went up against retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Gene Lee in a high-fidelity air combat simulator. The result, the Colonel lost. In a series of flight combat simulations, the A.I. successfully dodged Lee, and shot him down every time.
3 Signs That Point Towards Human-Robot Relationships Becoming A Reality An Eccentric Life
The idea of human-robot relationships may sound absurd to you, especially if you aren't the biggest fan of technology, but these types of relationships will happen in the next twenty to fifty years, and maybe even sooner. In case you are wondering about the above picture, it is from the movie Serenity. The man in the photo is Mr. Universe--a man who sits in front of screens all day monitoring the universe--and the "woman" is his female companion robot that he married. The idea of someone like this is absurd right? Except when you look at what is happening in western society, you realize it isn't.
The debate on artificial intelligence
Over twenty years ago, I worked for company called The Carnegie Group, an offshoot of Carnegie Mellon University's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratories. That company is long gone. Today, a think-tank goes by the same name. While extant, the erstwhile Carnegie Group worked on some of the most cutting edge AI products of its time. It was funded by a consortium of firms such as Caterpillar and USWEST (now Qwest Corp.) and its sole aim was to look for the application of AI technologies in businesses.
