Hitachi : June 27, 2016Hitachi Develops Technology to Automatically Create Effective Advice to Increase Worker Happiness Using Artificial Intelligence 4-Traders

#artificialintelligence

Tokyo, June 27, 2016 --- Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE:6501; 'Hitachi') today announced the development of technology using artificial intelligence that automatically creates effective advice for raising the happiness of workers based on the behavioral data of each individual on a daily basis and the commencement of an internal trial with 600 participants from sales & marketing. More precisely, a name tag type wearable sensor collects the massive amount of individual behavioral data which is then analyzed using Hitachi AI*1Technology/H (hereafter referred to as H), and used to create and deliver personalized advice on actions automatically, such as on communication in the workplace or time allocation that will contribute to raising individual happiness. This advice is delivered daily, and individual workers can check the daily advice on their smartphone or tablet, and choose to apply the advice in their daily activity. Hitachi will integrate the results from this trial into the solution which it will provide to corporate and other organizations globally, to support increased productivity through a more active organization resulting from the increased happiness of workers. In recent years, increasing'happiness' has become one of society's most important issues.

The AI Law Firm - Turing & Partners

#artificialintelligence

'We have arrived,' the personal assistant announced as the automated share car pulled up outside Turing & Partners, one of London's best-known AI-powered law firms. Elon Turing looked up from his notes that were projected before him and got out at the curb on Gresham Street, not far from the Bank of England. It was very warm, as it always was these days, though there was a heaviness in the air that promised a thunder storm. Elon nodded to the car, which zipped away into the pollution free morning and disappeared into a sea of auto-taxis, self-driving buses and other share cars. He took a deep breath and marched up to the front door of the building. The door scanned his face and opened, greeting him politely as he walked into the cooled lobby. At the reception desk was Albert.

America launches the worlds first fully autonomous warship

#artificialintelligence

The US military have launched their first experimental, fully autonomous self-driving warship, dubbed Sea Hunter, and representing a major advance in robotic warfare, which is increasingly forming the core of America's strategy to counter the Chinese and Russians, it's designed to hunt enemy submarines. The 132ft unarmed ASW Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) prototype is the naval equivalent of Google's self-driving car. Designed to cruise on the ocean's surface for two or three months at a time and with a range of over 10,000 miles it has neither a crew nor anyone controlling it remotely. And that kind of endurance and autonomy could make it a highly efficient submarine stalker at a fraction of the cost of the Navy's manned vessels. "This is an inflection point," Deputy US Defense Secretary Robert Work said in an interview, adding he hoped such ships might find a place in the western Pacific in as little as five years.

Iraq: ICRC camera drone captures damage in Ramadi

Al Jazeera

Chilling aerial footage of Ramadi, a once bustling city in central Iraq, has captured the extent of destruction caused by war. In late December, Iraqi forces, backed by US air strikes, announced the recapturing of Ramadi, which had been lost to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group in May 2015. The US-led coalition carried out more than 600 air strikes in the area from July to December last year. A new six-minute clip, released by the International Red Committee of The Red Cross (ICRC) shows homes in Ramadi turned to rubble, along with flattened school, destroyed hospitals and damaged ambulances. 8 Reasons Why We'll Launch A Chatbot Rather Than A Mobile App

People are hooked on messengers. Messenger apps are an alternative to home screens on the phones of millions of people. The big four messengers have overtaken the big four social networks in the number of active users. There are Line and WeChat in the Asian market. There are also Telegram, Slack, and Kik.

Attention and Memory in Deep Learning and NLP

#artificialintelligence

A recent trend in Deep Learning are Attention Mechanisms. In an interview, Ilya Sutskever, now the research director of OpenAI, mentioned that Attention Mechanisms are one of the most exciting advancements, and that they are here to stay. But what are Attention Mechanisms? Attention Mechanisms in Neural Networks are (very) loosely based on the visual attention mechanism found in humans. Human visual attention is well-studied and while there exist different models, all of them essentially come down to being able to focus on a certain region of an image with "high resolution" while perceiving the surrounding image in "low resolution", and then adjusting the focal point over time.

IT sector to lose 6.4 lakh "low-skilled" jobs to automation by 2021: HfS Research - The Economic Times

#artificialintelligence

MUMBAI DELHI: A US-based research firm is predicting that India's IT services industry will lose 6.4 lakh "low-skilled" jobs to automation in the next five years, quantifying the extent of likely pain for the first time, but Indian industry experts are urging caution and point to the other side of the coin -- the creation of new jobs in large numbers. By 2021, HfS Research said that the IT industry worldwide would see a net decrease of 9% in headcount, or about 1.4 million jobs, with countries like the Philippines, the United Kingdom and the United States also taking hits. For its part, IT industry body The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) said that the report may not have taken into account all the jobs being created by newer technologies. "Nobody's really seen what automation and robotics will really lead to. There will be some impact of automation but overall we believe that technology adoption will actually lead to more job creation across sectors," Sangeeta Gupta, senior vice president at Nasscom, told ET. "Focus on talent increasingly has to be on skill and not scale. Jobs will exist in other places also, it's not fair to say these many jobs will get eliminated."
