[slides] #IoT and New Transportation @ThingsExpo @JAdP #AI #ML #Sensors

#artificialintelligence

In past @ThingsExpo presentations, Joseph di Paolantonio has explored how various Internet of Things ( IoT) and data management and analytics (DMA) solution spaces will come together as sensor analytics ecosystems. This year, in his session at @ThingsExpo, Joseph di Paolantonio from DataArchon, added the numerous Transportation areas, from autonomous vehicles to "Uber for containers." While IoT data in any one area of Transportation will have a huge impact in that area, combining sensor analytics from these different areas will impact government, industry, retail and other processes, as well as life-style choices. These changes to transportation are happening now, but at varying maturity levels as we advance along a model of Connect, Communicate, Collaborate, Contextualize and Cognition. Attendees will come away with specific ideas on identifying value from transportation IoT data and sensor analytics in their own industry.

Bengaluru continues to offer best ecosystem for tech firms: Priyank Kharge

At a time when India's software services industry is witnessing a slowdown, the State government is now betting big on startups. It is chasing technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence and gaming that will influence consumer behaviour and organisations and also give rise to startups to disrupt the market. Though the IT services sector has been affected, other growth sectors such as startups are doing well and attracting good investments. Bengaluru continues to offer the best ecosystem for tech companies. There were concerns and they affected the industry temporarily. But the brand is back and Bengaluru continues to be a favoured investment destination.

The invention of Artificial Intelligence and what it means for the world of work?

#artificialintelligence

The story of Artificial Intelligence is as old as Greek antiquity (Greek myths incorporated the idea of intelligent robots). It all began with myths, stories and rumors of artificial beings gifted with intelligence by master craftsmen. As Pamela McCorduck puts it: "Artificial Intelligence began with an ancient wish to forge the Gods." McCorduck was popular for penning books concerning the history and philosophical significance of Artificial Intelligence. But, when were the seeds of modern Artificial Intelligence planted? In the 1940s, a programmable digital computer was invented โ€“ a machine based on the abstract essence of mathematical reasoning.

Deloitte says 861,000 UK public sector jobs can be automated

#artificialintelligence

Technologies including AI, bots, drones and robots will lead to the automation of large parts of the global workforce More than 861,000 public sector jobs could be lost by 2030 through automation, according to a study that comes as a further blow after hundreds of thousands of UK public sector jobs disappeared following the government's austerity cuts during and after the recession. However, it has to be said, that as more and more governments around the world experiment with Universal Basic Income (UBI) programs, including Scotland who may even start trails next week, the news doesn't come as a complete surprise. The research conducted by Oxford University and Deloitte, the business advisory firm, found that the 1.3m administrative jobs across the public sector had the highest chance of being automated. But, following on from the London Borough of Enfields move to replace some customer services clerks with a bot called "Amelia," even teachers, police officers and social workers could be replaced, at least in part, allowing the government to either free up more staff for frontline work or reduce the number of workers on the payroll. The research is included in Deloitte's State of the State report, which analyses the state of public finances and the challenges facing public services. Deloitte's previous work has shown that all sectors will be affected by automation in the next two decades, with 74% of jobs in transportation and storage, 59% in wholesale and retail trades and 56% in manufacturing having a high chance of being automated.

Inside the Epic Go Tournament Where Google's AI Came to Life

Peering through wire-rim glasses, he places the black stone on the board, in a mostly empty zone, just below and to the left of a single white stone. In Go parlance it is a "shoulder hit," in from the side, far away from most of the game's other action. Across the table, Lee Sedol, the best Go player of the past decade, freezes. He looks at the 37 stones fanned out across the board, then stands up and leaves. In the commentary room, about 50 feet away, Michael Redmond is watching the game via closed-circuit.

How artificial intelligence is transforming marketing

#artificialintelligence

In an industry known for its love of buzzwords and hype, artificial intelligence (AI) has become marketing's new'big data'. But where big data ultimately led to new layers of complexity, AI promises the opposite. Big data forced marketers to become data scientists (or hire them, if they could be found), but AI holds out the hope that marketers may get to go back to doing what they signed up for the in the first place. Recent months have seen technology providers such as Salesforce, Oracle and Microsoft bring new AI-based technologies to market, promising to derive insights and improve conversions by mimicking the processes of the human brain in software. Salesforce, for example, is rolling out its Einstein AI technology to provide functions such as product recommendations within the Commerce Cloud, email content recommendations within its Marketing Cloud, and predictive forecasting tools for sales managers with its Sales Cloud.

Healthcare and the artificial intelligence revolution - PMLiVE

What is AI? AI is concerned with replicating mechanisms of human intelligence using computers and software. One popular technique involves replicating the brain's neural network (a modelling technique known as'artificial neural networks') to analyse information, extract layers of detail from within it and ultimately attempt to interpret the results. This makes the technology perfect for performing tasks such as analysing language and identifying objects within images. The basic principles have been around since the '60s and were refined in the '90s to allow systems to'learn' based on previous results. In medicine such methods were used to perform tasks such as analysing pap smears.

HR to manage artificial talent "within 5 years"

#artificialintelligence

HRjobs: Asia's only regional recruitment website 100% dedicated to HR jobs. Two thirds of HR executives in Asia expect they will soon be tasked with managing both man and machine as the use of artifical intelligence in business rises. Additionally, 70.8% believes the advancements in AI and robotics will lead to substantial job losses in Asia over the next five years. Those are some of the findings from the recent MIT Technology Review, which surveyed over 60 Asia-based senior executives and two dozen senior HR professionals to gather perspective on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics on Asia's business landscape. According to the report, the rise of AI will create a seismic shift in the processes that senior managers use to manage talent, growth, and productivity across nearly every industry sector.

However, smartphone AI has gone above and beyond Siri's initial features. Cortana from Windows can let us know the weather and remind us of important dates that are coming up, while Google's personal assistant will integrate with Google Home and Apollo so you have a one-stop assistant for all your personal and business needs. The Yahoo Tech journalists compared Siri vs Cortana, Google Now, and Alexa to find out which voice assistant is better. They found out that Siri (iPhone) and Google Now (Android) are the only assistants that flawlessly handle requests like "Remind me to pick up my dry cleaning when I leave home" or "Remind me to wear red on Valentine's Day". And only Siri executes such spoken instructions as "Make the screen brighter" or "Learn how to pronounce "Jacquee."

Artificial Intelligence โ€“ Myth or Reality @CloudExpo #AI #ML #DL #IoT

Way back in 1969, as a kid, I watched a very interesting movie - "2001: A Space Odyssey." It was a science fiction where a super intelligent computer program HAL is in charge of a mission to Jupiter which also carries several astronauts. The program becomes rogue and tries to kill all the astronauts. The hero survives and manages to disable the program. There is a lot more to the plot, but the fight between human and computer is still vivid in my memory. In 1969, such a scenario looked possible. After all 32 years is a lot of time given the rate of our progress. We are now in 2016, and it appears that something similar may happen in the next 32 years. Even the experts have been predicting that Artificial Intelligence or AI will happen in next 20 years. The irony is that this prediction is being made for more than 60 years now!
