Baristas Beware: This Robotic Cafe Is Coming For Your Job
Two automated coffee machines in the back grind coffee, pull espresso shots and steam milk. The robotic arm -- made by Mitsubishi and designed for industrial usage -- places the cup near the front of the glass to await pick up. Once the customer arrives and inputs the four-digit code sent to their phone, the drink is sent down a tiny elevator and delivered to the customer. It all seems a little excessive for what amounts to a glorified vending machine, but the end result is a delicious espresso drink. This is the first robotic coffee shop from Cafe X in the United States -- the first Cafe X has been up and running for several months now in Hong Kong.

Cafe X opens in San Francisco, bringing robots to the coffee shop
The world's first coffee shop opened in Constantinople in 1555. But Cafe X, opening today, wants to give the world a twist on the centuries old barista model, opting instead to have a large robotic arm craft your caffeinated potions. Founder Henry Hu noticed that baristas spent a majority of their time moving cups around while making espresso drinks. So, much like anyone's natural reaction to that epiphany, Hu decided to build a fully mechanized coffee shop. At scale, Cafe X should be able to increase margins within the industry while reducing wait times for hurried patrons.
How artificial intelligence will impact accounting
Artificial intelligence is no longer the stuff of science fiction and Hollywood movies. So many works of film and fiction are hooked on the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and what it might mean for humanity. They are often apocalyptic tales โ Blade Runner, Alien, Terminator โ where mankind comes off badly. But now that AI is being spearheaded by internet giants such as Google, Microsoft and Amazon, and our daily lives are increasingly affected by AI systems โ chat bots, purchase prediction, news generation โ what will really happen? In 2015 the UK media widely picked up on American media organisation NPR's calculator that could predict which jobs are susceptible to computerisation.
