This upcoming revolution will surpass in its impact on Homo sapiens all revolutions in human communications except perhaps the very first revolution, which was the evolution of verbal communication among our earliest ancestors. This barely acknowledged revolution, which is likely to change the entire course of human history in a few short decades, is the rise of Artificial Intelligence-enabled, fully fluent live audio translation of conversations between humans of all ethnicities. We are not just talking about the literal translation of English or French into Russian or Chinese, but the translation of the subtle meanings wrapped in cultural allegories that even fluent but non-native speakers of a language often miss. This means that armed with nothing more than an Artificial Intelligence, or AI, audio translation app on a mobile phone, an American tourist could enter a farmer's market in Turkey or Germany and, not only haggle over prices, but laugh and joke with a local fruit seller as if he was Turkish or German. Wait another decade and he will be able to do the same thing in China.

Nintendo is doubling production of the Nintendo Switch, as fans struggle to buy the consoles weeks after it was launched. The console originally launched at the beginning of this month. But even on that release date, it wasn't really possible to buy it – all the pre-orders had been snapped up in advance and people were left waiting for weeks. That trend has continued in the weeks since, with consoles occasionally arriving on retailers like Argos and the Nintendo official store but quickly being bought. Even big websites like Amazon don't have much stock, leaving people waiting until the end of the month.

Two people have died after mysterious ghost calls flooded the 911 emergency dispatch system in Dallas, Texas. Six-month-old Brandon Alex passed away on Saturday after falling out of his bed. His babysitter found him unconscious but still breathing and called 911 three times, but was repeated placed on hold and eventually hung up after failing to get through for more than 30 minutes, reports Dallas News. The youngster was taken to hospital by his mother, Bridget Alex, but didn't regain consciousness. Uniqlo owner Fast Retailing Co. is betting that speed, both in supplying its stores with the latest fashion and getting custom-made products to shoppers, will allow it to overtake apparel powerhouse Zara. Fast Retailing plans to shorten the time it takes from design to delivery to about 13 days, roughly the same as Zara, owned by the world's biggest clothes retailer Inditex SA, Uniqlo's billionaire owner Tadashi Yanai said in an interview at the company's new design and delivery center that opened Thursday in an industrial area of Tokyo. The new complex will also help Uniqlo expand direct-to-consumer, custom-clothing sales and improve the efficiency of its same-day delivery in the Tokyo area, he said. "We need to be fast," he said. "We need to deliver products customers want quickly."

The game has remained an inviolably human pursuit for centuries, and one of the hardest challenges for artificial intelligence (AI) because of the vast number of possible moves -- more than the number of atoms in the universe -- and the need to employ creativity to win. In Seoul's Four Seasons hotel, AlphaGo's victory over five games was ruthless: Lee Sedol, the 33-year-old human go grandmaster, lost 4-1. At a press conference afterwards, he said with a trace of wonder: "Today, I am speechless."

Just under a year after their $12.5 million Series A funding round, Israeli Artificial Intelligence for ecommerce startup Twiggle announced today the release of their Semantic API product, bringing their accumulated expertise in search to the wider online shopping market. Twiggle was co-founded in December of 2013 by CEO Dr. Amir Konigsberg, previously one of the members of Google's emerging markets operations, and Dr. Adi Avidor, a former engineering tech lead at Google. In the time since their Series A, they have picked up another $5 million from Alibaba, doubled their team, and moved shop to new offices overlooking Tel Aviv. Describing what they have built in short, this company has made search for ecommerce usable to the point that it becomes a near enjoyable experience. Their engine processes through lists of products, understanding the attributes that make them what they are.
