Behind successes such as this are programs that are modelled on biological systems and are constructed in a form similar to neural networks so that they can independently extract relationships from millions of data points. 'Artificial neural networks are primarily applied to problems, where solutions cannot be formulated with explicit rules,' explains Dr. Christopher Krauss of the Chair for Statistics and Econometrics at FAU. 'Image and speech recognition are typical fields of application, such as Apple's Siri.

Security for multirobot systems
Distributed planning, communication, and control algorithms for autonomous robots make up a major area of research in computer science. But in the literature on multirobot systems, security has gotten relatively short shrift. In the latest issue of the journal Autonomous Robots, researchers from MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and their colleagues present a new technique for preventing malicious hackers from commandeering robot teams' communication networks. The technique could provide an added layer of security in systems that encrypt communications, or an alternative in circumstances in which encryption is impractical. "The robotics community has focused on making multirobot systems autonomous and increasingly more capable by developing the science of autonomy. In some sense we have not done enough about systems-level issues like cybersecurity and privacy," says Daniela Rus, an Andrew and Erna Viterbi Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT and senior author on the new paper.

Doctors at research hospitals and even the US Department of Veterans Affairs are piloting new, AI-driven suicide-prevention platforms that capture more data than ever before. The goal: build predictive models to tailor interventions earlier.
Nintendo Doubles Switch Production; Includes 5 New Games
Kyoto-based multinational consumer electronics and video game company Nintendo has planned to double the production of its gaming console Switch, according to a Wall Street Journal report published Friday. The Journal quoted Nintendo chief executive Tatsumi Kimishima as saying that the company would ship two million Switch units globally each month, but "one person familiar with production" told the Journal that 2.5 million is more likely. Switch, which was launched on March 3, 2017, has been well received by reviewers and users, and early sales looked very promising. It sums up precisely why Nintendo decided to ramp up the production to make 16 million units instead of the previously decided 8 million in the next fiscal year starting next month. Investing In Baidu To Bet On Artificial Intelligence
Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU) is one of the main companies that are trying to build a strong position in the promising market of artificial intelligence. In this article, I explain why I think investing in Baidu can be also a good way to gain exposure to AI. Artificial Intelligence offers a large number of functions that can strengthen Baidu's current businesses, but also gives the company the possiblity to exploit "new" markets such as autonomous driving and AI applications for financial services and healthcare. I have been long Baidu more or less for 3 quarters but the stock hasn't gained much since I started my position. The market is still scared by the weak performance of the company's non-core divisions, while the recent need to adjust advertising practices has weighed on sales in the short-term. The core search market, despite a rise in revenue per customer, suffered from a reduction in the number of customers as a result of stricter regulations for online advertising.
