Cooperative Localisation of a GPS-Denied UAV in 3-Dimensional Space Using Direction of Arrival Measurements

This paper presents a novel approach for localising a GPS (Global Positioning System)-denied Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) with the aid of a GPS-equipped UAV in three-dimensional space. The GPS-equipped UAV makes discrete-time broadcasts of its global coordinates. The GPS-denied UAV simultaneously receives the broadcast and takes direction of arrival (DOA) measurements towards the origin of the broadcast in its local coordinate frame (obtained via an inertial navigation system (INS)). The aim is to determine the difference between the local and global frames, described by a rotation and a translation. In the noiseless case, global coordinates were recovered exactly by solving a system of linear equations. When DOA measurements are contaminated with noise, rank relaxed semidefinite programming (SDP) and the Orthogonal Procrustes algorithm are employed. Simulations are provided and factors affecting accuracy, such as noise levels and number of measurements, are explored.

Could AI Fix the Real Problem Behind the CIA IoT Leak? - Datamation
A lot of us have been looking at the recent WikiLeaks drop of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) files related to hacking Internet of Things (IoT) and personal technology devices. It includes a lot of data, so it is easy to get lost in the woods with regard to what these tools do. But apparently they can break into devices and cast blame for it on the Russians, which I believe is problematic in a whole number of different ways. I think the real problem with this is the CIA's risk assessment process. I think this decision process problem is far larger than just the CIA and reflects on security in general. I also think that a deep learning tool like IBM's Watson could, if placed in the decision process, help prevent bad decisions like this.

But earlier this month, the company began turning some of those AI tools to a more noble goal: stopping people from taking their own lives. But it's not just tech giants like Facebook, Instagram, and China's up-and-coming video platform Live.me who are devoting R&D to flagging self-harm. Doctors at research hospitals and even the US Department of Veterans Affairs are piloting new, AI-driven suicide-prevention platforms that capture more data than ever before. The goal: build predictive models to tailor interventions earlier.
Artificial intelligence-enabled app for live bus info and more
Kolkata, March 18 (IANS) An artificial intelligence-enabled app launched by the West Bengal government lets commuters know about the real-time location of over 700 state-run buses and other related information, an official said on Friday. According to Rachpal Singh, Chairman of West Bengal Transport Corporation, the app called "Patha Disha" once downloaded on one's phone can inform on availability of seats and specific buses and estimated time of arrival at the destination. It even provides data on how crowded the bus is. "The app was launched in sync with the prepaid electronic transport card. The real-time tracking services and prepaid system will be extended to trams and waterway transit services as well," Singh said.
