Dribbling with a ball at high speed, these football-playing robots have clearly mastered some impressive techniques. Ahead of the 2017 RoboCup in Japan this July, humanoid androids from around the world are currently in warm-up mode. Photographs taken yesterday in the east Chinese city of Rizhao, show some of the country's top man-made athletes in action with dozens of spectators out to watch. The robots appear to be around 11 inches high, with their teams highlighted by coloured plastic jerseys and helmets. These applications aim to analyze a vast amount of data and search for patterns--broadening managers' options and helping them systematize processes that are often driven simply by instinct. And just like shopping sites, the AIs are designed to learn from experience to get an ever-better idea of what managers want. A company can provide a job description, and AI will collect and crunch data from a variety of sources to find people with the right talents, with experience to match--candidates who might never have thought of applying to the company, and whom the company might never have thought of seeking out.

Around that time, I started to experiment with bots for my work and somewhere along the line, I started experimenting for myself aswell. Amsterdam, Netherlands/Stuttgart, Germany – Artificial intelligence is poised to fundamentally change the world: in the future, machines will be capable of autonomously learning from experience and acting on this basis. The foundation for this is deep learning. In the future, the University of Amsterdam and Bosch will cooperate closely in this field. To this end, the two partners have announced a research alliance in Amsterdam. Known as Delta Lab ("Deep Learning Technologies Amsterdam"), the alliance aims to promote regular professional exchange and knowledge transfer.

Inspite of all the current hype, AI is not a new field of study, but it has its ground in the fifties. If we exclude the pure philosophical reasoning path that goes from the Ancient Greek to Hobbes, Leibniz, and Pascal, AI as we know it has been officially started in 1956 at Dartmouth College, where the most eminent experts gathered to brainstorm on intelligence simulation. This happened only a few years after Asimov set his own three laws of robotics, but more relevantly after the famous paper published by Turing (1950), where he proposes for the first time the idea of a thinking machine and the more popular Turing test to assess whether such machine shows, in fact, any intelligence. As soon as the research group at Dartmouth publicly released the contents and ideas arisen from that summer meeting, a flow of government funding was reserved for the study of creating a nonbiological intelligence. Atthat time, AI seemed to be easily reachable, but it turned out that was not the case.
