How to keep a job in a world of AI? Get creative

A new report from UBS estimates that artificial intelligence (AI) technologies could create an economic value of about $1.8 trillion to $3 trillion in Asia by 2030. But that value comes at a cost, with an estimated 30 million to 50 million jobs in Asia at risk of displacement in the medium to long term. Financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, retail and transportation, are the sectors likely to bear the brunt of job losses, according to UBS Global IT Analyst Sundeep Gantori. Speaking with CNBC's "Street Signs," he said jobs in traditional sectors that are predictive and routine in nature will be affected. So in preparation for the future, he advised that job seekers target roles requiring personalization or creativity.

United Airlines incident video could have broken flight provider's rules, but not the law

The Independent - Tech

A video of a passenger forcibly ejected from a United Airlines flight has been condemned across the world. It shows a man being dragged off a plane, sustaining injuries as in the process, apparently because the airline wanted to make space for it own passengers. But some have chosen instead to focus on filming of the video itself -- even claiming that the people who should actually be punished are the people that recorded it. F-16 As A Drone? US Air Force Testing Autonomous Aerial Strikes Using Fighter Jets

International Business Times

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) recently tested autonomously flying F-16 fighter jets in collaboration with Lockheed Martin. The tests could mark a big leap for military drone technology as these jets could be used in the future for large scale air-to-ground strikes. "This demonstration is an important milestone in AFRL's maturation of technologies needed to integrate manned and unmanned aircraft in a strike package. We've not only shown how an Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle can perform its mission when things go as planned, but also how it will react and adapt to unforeseen obstacles along the way," Capt. Andrew Petry, AFRL autonomous flight operations engineer, said in a press release issued Monday by Lockheed Martin.

The Sudden Artificial Intelligence Boom in China Industry Leaders Magazine

Margaret Atwood, the Prophet of Dystopia

The New Yorker

The ritualized procreation in the novel--effectively, state-sanctioned rape--is extrapolated from the Bible. " 'Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her,' " Atwood recited. "Obviously, they stuck the two together and out came the baby, and it was given to Rachel.
