Police officers in Durham will soon use artificial intelligence to determine whether a suspect should be kept in custody or released on bail. The system, which is called the Harm Assessment Risk Tool (Hart), has been trained using Durham Constabulary data collected from 2008 to 2013, and will also consider a suspect's gender and postcode. It's designed to help officers assess how risky it would be to release suspects. The Chinese government plans to find, catch and land on an asteroid – before mining and even living on it. Beijing hopes to be able to take the precious and rare materials that are thought to be inside of many asteroids by catching one as early as 2020, according to officials from China's space programme. The country will launch its first spacecraft over the next three years or so, chief commander and designer of China's lunar exploration program Ye Pijian told state media. "Fast Charging is the critical missing link needed to make electric vehicles ubiquitous. The currently available battery technology dictates long charging times, which makes the EV form of transportation inadequate for the public at large. Maxus tested a few AI platforms over the past year and is now mainly using one called Lucy to process and rearrange structured data for better efficiency. For instance, a hotel chain recently wanted to understand how its visitor profiles overlap across its business, economy and high-end hotel offerings, so Maxus used Lucy to isolate different audience segments and their media exposure for the client. The agency also tested Lucy in Asia for a cosmetics brand to understand audience segmentation across its products (lipsticks and mascara, for example) and how that influenced media consumption across TV, digital and out of home by country. David Gaines, chief planning officer for Maxus' North American operations, thinks agencies should view AI platforms as an opportunity for collaboration, rather than competition.
