NVIDIA has reported Q1 revenue of $1.94 billion, buoyed by record datacenter sales of $409 million. The datacenter business has been growing by leaps and bounds for the graphics chipmaker, thanks largely to the rapidly expanding market for high GPUs in deep learning. Revenue for the first quarter (Q1 FY18) beat analyst estimates and represents a 48 percent increase from last year at this time. Even more encouraging was net income, which amounted to $507 million for the quarter. That's more than twice that reported for the first quarter in 2016.

Microsoft is planning to turn Windows 10 PCs into smart home hubs in next major update, scheduled for September. According to internal documents seen by The Verge, HomeHub will support devices from Philips Hue, Nest, SmartThings, Insteon, and Wink. The update is aimed primarily at'kitchen-PCs' that are used by all the family, and Microsoft is reportedly working with HP and Lenovo to create PCs similar to Amazon's Echo Show, announced a few days ago. Shared calendars, to-do lists, notes, and apps will also be part of the update. Users will be able to change settings on smart home devices from across the room with Cortana, Microsoft's own virtual assistant.

We propose a logic of asynchronous announcements, where truthful announcements are publicly sent but individually received by agents. Additional to epistemic modalities, the logic therefore contains two types of dynamic modalities, for sending messages and for receiving messages. The semantics defines truth relative to the current state of reception of messages for all agents. This means that knowledge need not be truthful, because some messages may not have been received by the knowing agent. Messages that are announcements may also result in partial synchronization, namely when an agent learns from receiving an announcement that other announcements must already have been received by other agents. We give detailed examples of the semantics, and prove several semantic results, including that: after an announcement an agent knows that a proposition is true, if and only if on condition of the truth of that announcement, the agent knows that after that announcement and after any number of other agents also receiving it, the proposition is true. We show that on multi-agent epistemic models, each formula in asynchronous announcement logic is equivalent to a formula in epistemic logic.

MIAMI – NASA succeeds in its historic spacewalk on Friday, although it all began with a micro-gravity curveball. International Space Station Commander Peggy Whitson and Flight Engineer Jack Fischer floated in space and into the record books after the two astronauts made the 200th spacewalk in support of the orbiting laboratory. But as the astronauts were suited up and preparing to go into the de-pressurization airlock, they noticed a water leak at the connection point of Fischer's spacesuit and the station's cooling and power system "umbilical cord." Research into artificial intelligence is going gangbusters, and the frenetic pace won't let up for about five years -- after which the industry will concentrate around a handful of core technologies and leaders, the head of Intel's new AI division predicts.
