Multi-label Classification using Labels as Hidden Nodes

Competitive methods for multi-label classification typically invest in learning labels together. To do so in a beneficial way, analysis of label dependence is often seen as a fundamental step, separate and prior to constructing a classifier. Some methods invest up to hundreds of times more computational effort in building dependency models, than training the final classifier itself. We extend some recent discussion in the literature and provide a deeper analysis, namely, developing the view that label dependence is often introduced by an inadequate base classifier, rather than being inherent to the data or underlying concept; showing how even an exhaustive analysis of label dependence may not lead to an optimal classification structure. Viewing labels as additional features (a transformation of the input), we create neural-network inspired novel methods that remove the emphasis of a prior dependency structure. Our methods have an important advantage particular to multi-label data: they leverage labels to create effective units in middle layers, rather than learning these units from scratch in an unsupervised fashion with gradient-based methods. Results are promising. The methods we propose perform competitively, and also have very important qualities of scalability.


In Japan, "Artificial Intelligence" comes to be a super star while "Data Scientist" is fading away

I published a post about the current status of "Data Scientist" in Japan, as a periodic follow-up analysis since two years ago. Its trend still remains, but it's beyond my anticipation at that time. Indeed growing trend of "Artificial Intelligence" in Japan is steeper than that in English, and "Data Scientist" is now getting to be forgotten by people, although in the global market data scientist is still a major role spreading data science including both statistics and machine learning across industries. Although I did not explicitly mention in the post, I guess that Japanese people may think that data scientist is a professional for statistical analysis although artificial intelligence engineer is one for machine learning or artificial intelligence as a misleading technology. Two years ago, already I've had seen some disappointment at "Data Science" powered by statistics and supported by data scientists.

This seems to be even more confirmation that the Essential Phone release date is still murky. Wings are great for crusing over long distances and carrying heavy loads, but they aren't that great if your aircraft needs vertical agility. Rotors, on the other hand, are great for vertical agility, but they aren't that great for long distances and heavy loads. Any aircraft that wants to fly efficiently can be designed for cruising or hovering, but not both. Lots and lots of people have tried to figure out a way of making some sort of compromise work. Mostly, this involves stapling as many vertical rotors as you have a budget for to a fixed-wing aircraft and just calling it a day: When you want to go up or down, you use the vertical rotors, and the rest of the time, you use whatever other rotors you can afford to have mounted horizontally.
