An underwater robot deployed into one of Fukushima's defunct nuclear reactors discovered what appeared to be hunks of melted fuel debris. Video recorded by the robot showed "lava-like" lumps inside the submerged No. 3 reactor. The robot was sent into the reactor through a pipe meant to prevent the escape of radioactive gas, Reuters reported Thursday. Operators aimed for the machine to locate radioactive melted fuel rods in order to remove them and continue decommissioning the plant. Discovering the melted fuel would mark a major accomplishment for plant's cleanup process.

In 2006, Fei-Fei Li started ruminating on an idea. Li, a newly-minted computer science professor at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, saw her colleagues across academia and the AI industry hammering away at the same concept: a better algorithm would make better decisions, regardless of the data. But she realized a limitation to this approach--the best algorithm wouldn't work well if the data it learned from didn't reflect the real world. Her solution: build a better dataset. Sky just released a new box. Except this one makes sound. It has announced the release of its Soundbox – a speaker packed into a small box that will sit alongside the traditional Sky box and the TV. And it's intended as a relatively cheap way of getting great sound as well as great images. It says that the new speaker is intended as the Ultra HD of home audio.
