The topic of machine learning-enabled artificial intelligence (AI) is gaining increasing visibility in the world of investment management. Of particular interest is the application of AI to the development of smarter robo-advisers that some hope, while others fear, will yield'intelligent' and cost-effective investment management advice. This topic was raised by investment professionals during the recent CFA Institute travelling conference that went to Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. AI has also been the subject of a recent European Commission (EC) consultation document, to which CFA Institute submitted a response. For the uninitiated, some quick defining of terms could be helpful.


IBM unveils first Machine Learning Hub in India

Yesterday, IBM opened its first Machine Learning Hub in Bengaluru. The company hopes that the Hub will allow engineers, data professionals, business analysts and organizations to greatly benefit and learn through collaboration with like-minded organisations. IBM says that various enterprises will now have an opportunity to work closely with IBM data experts to understand the technology to analyze, visualize and interpret data. The Bengaluru ML hub is an addition to IBM's growing ML Hubs, similar to the ones in Toronto, San Jose, California, Beijing, Boblingen, and at IBM's Silicon Valley Lab. According to IBM, their experts will also assist visitors build and test rapid, scalable prototypes for fast deployment of their models.

A new video game console will let people play classic NES games in high-definition, just the latest product to seize on the frenzy for retro gaming. Titled the RES Plus, the red and black console is designed to run original NES cartridges in high definition, enabling players to experience their favourite 8-bit games "like never before." The system supports both AV and HDMI output, and will play games designed for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 720p resolution.
