HONG KONG (Reuters) - China's Tencent Holdings and Guangzhou Automobile Group Company Ltd have agreed to collaborate on internet-connected cars - a strategic pact that sent shares in Guangzhou Auto surging. The development of self-driving cars and fast-changing technology have set in motion a flurry of alliances between internet giants and automakers. Earlier this year, Tencent bought 5 percent of U.S. electric car maker Tesla Inc for $1.78 billion. Tencent and Guangzhou Auto will work together to develop internet-connected cars and artificial intelligence-aided driving, as well as explore investment in areas such as auto-related e-commerce, so-called new energy cars and auto insurance, the automaker said in a filing late on Monday. Guangzhou Auto said it aimed to tap Tencent's expertise in mobile payments, social networking, big data and artificial intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence is set to disrupt every industry vertical. While scenarios like self-driving cars and cancer diagnosis instantly get our attention, more common areas such as IT operations and DevOps are also impacted by AI. One of the core aspects of DevOps is monitoring and logging. It is common for IT administrators and system operations managers to collect and aggregate logs in a central location. Typically, these logs are used for audit trail, and to perform root cause analysis and remediation.

Will AI become a basic human right? Marc Benioff thinks it should

#artificialintelligence

Should we think of AI as a basic human right? That was the question raised by Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff in a session at the United Nations General Assembly yesterday. The backdrop for Benioff's comments was debate around the impact of technology and innovation on the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These were agreed back in 2015 as set of specific targets based on a sustainable development agenda with the overall goal of ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity. When the SDGs were laid down, there was a window of 15 years to hit the targets.

Everyday we hear about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine learning in different contexts. Entrepreneurs like Elon Musk fear that it will doom the human race. Notably, the Russian President Mr Vladimir Putin was recently quoted telling students that whoever masters AI will rule the world. When ordinary people hear about A.I their thoughts immediately venture towards machine based programs encountered in movies like Star Trek and Star Wars. This is not the only form of AI that exists. We have previously covered Indian start-ups working in AI.

Learning Path:TensorFlow: The Road to TensorFlow-2nd Edition

@machinelearnbot

Packt's Video Learning Paths are a series of individual video products put together in a logical and stepwise manner such that each video builds on the skills learned in the video before it. It can be hard to get started with machine learning, particularly as new frameworks like TensorFlow start to gain traction across enterprise companies. TensorFlow is an open source software library for numerical computation using data flow graphs. The flexible architecture allows you to deploy computation to one or more CPUs or GPUs in a desktop, server, or mobile device with a single API. This Learning Path begins by covering a mastery on Python with a deep focus on unlocking Python's secrets.

Inspired by racing, Toyota roars ahead with GR sports car brand

The Japan Times

Amid heated global competition over developing next-generation cars such as self-driving automobiles and electric vehicles, Toyota Motor Corp. unveiled Tuesday a new sports car brand inspired by its expertise in motor sports. Under the brand name GR, which comes from Toyota's motor sports brand Toyota Gazoo Racing, the auto giant unveiled seven cars remodeled as sports editions, including the Vitz compact, Voxy and Noah minivans, and the Prius and Mark X sedans. They hit Toyota's retail outlets Tuesday. The main target of the new brand is younger customers, who are often said to have lost their passion for driving their own cars, Gazoo Racing President Shigeki Tomoyama said. "What constitutes the heart of the Gazoo brand is a desire for challenges to make innovations by breaking through barriers existing inside Toyota and set by Toyota," Tomoyama, who heads Toyota's in-house company launched in April, said at carmaker's Mega Web showroom in Tokyo's Odaiba waterfront area, adding that the company also plans to sell GR-branded cars in the European Union.

William Bao Bean, general partner at early stage venture capital firm SOSV, said at a panel at the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology that significant sums of money were flowing into AI. "So the last 15 years, entrepreneurs and [venture capitalists], like us, have been investing in companies that solve basic problems," he said, adding most of the problems today are solved "pretty well" in the country. Currently, China is a "lot more like the U.S., where, in order to make an impact, you have to have a revolution in tech," Bao Bean said. Global consulting firm KPMG said in January that China set a record high in terms of VC investments in 2016, despite a global slowdown in the field. The firm said the strong performance was expected to continue as AI becoming a stronger focus for investors.
