Chinese tech giants are increasing their artificial intelligence (AI) investments as they vie to stay competitive in the burgeoning space, according to South China Morning Post. China is the world's second-largest investor in AI after the US -- 66% of AI investments in 2016 were in US-based companies. And although investments in Chinese companies are growing quickly, they still fall behind, making up just 17% of AI investments, according to McKinsey.


Artificial Intelligence will help reduce road accidents

Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to reduce human decision-making while driving can lead to a dramatic reduction in road accidents. This was the emphasis given by former US transportation secretary Anthony Foxx, during his keynote speech at the inaugural International Road Federation (IRF) Congress- Middle East and North Africa, hosted by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai on Sunday. "This is the first generation that I believe will see a dramatic decrease in road fatalities as a result of technology," Foxx noted. According to the IRF, road accidents are the 10th largest cause of mortality worldwide while it is the second major cause of death after cardiovascular diseases in the UAE, according to Road SafetyUAE. Majority of traffic incidents worldwide are both predictable and preventable, according to a UN General Secretariat report last year.


Nvidia Set to Open at Record on Soaring Volta Chip Demand

It attributed that growth to the May launch of its Volta chips as part of its Tesla V100 data center graphic processing unit (GPU) that will power systems ranging from artificial intelligence (AI) to driverless cars. "Shipments of the Tesla V100 GPU began in Q2 and ramped significantly in Q3 driven primarily by demand from cloud service providers and high-performance computing," Chief Financial Officer Colette Kress said on a conference call on Thursday.
