How AI startup ThirdWatch is keeping an eye on and preventing online fraud through Mitra

Using advanced algorithms, Mitra captures over 200 parameters and flags every transaction as red or green in real time. According to global information services company Experian's Asia Pacific Fraud Insights Report โ€“ 2017, of the 10 countries analysed in Asia Pacific, Indian consumers are the most vulnerable to online frauds. The results were based on analysis of fraud trends, and 48 percent of Indian consumers have experienced fraud at the retail level, either directly or indirectly, the report said. The report also highlighted that frauds are on the rise in all segments of lending and the highest frauds are in consumer loans (2.2 percent), credit cards (0.8 percent) and personal loans (0.72 percent). Gurugram-based ThirdWatch aims to change this scenario.

One of the traditions of the Olympics is the torch relay, in which people carry the flame from Olympia, Greece to the location of the Games. In 2018, the Olympic Games will be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and the torch relay is currently underway. Earlier this week, the HUBO, the humanoid robot, carried the flame for part of its journey. HUBO only covered 150 meters (about 500 feet) with the torch, but its presence was largely symbolic. As part of its torch duties, HUBO performed an example of a disaster rescue operation in which it cut a hole in a brick wall (while still holding the torch). It was intended as a "display of innovation and creativity," according to PyeongChang 2018 Organizing Committee President LEE Hee-beom.

The EasyScan GO, announced at MEDICA, the medical industry's leading trade fair, is the result of a partnership between the Global Good Fund, a Seattle-based group funded by philanthropist Bill Gates, and Motic, a China-based company that specializes in manufacturing microscopes. Field tests have demonstrated that the machine learning algorithm is as reliable as an expert microscopist in fighting the spread of drug resistant malaria. EasyScan GO is the latest example of Global Good's partnering to bring emerging technologies to health systems in low resource settings. Based at the invention company Intellectual Ventures, Global Good is focused on developing and deploying technologies for the poorest parts of the world.
