What offshore firms are doing (and not doing) about legal tech

#artificialintelligence

Last month The Lawyer published the first-ever Offshore Litigation Survey, which revealed the cases on which the top firms have been active as well as firms' bench strengths. As part of the survey we also asked offshore firms about their technology-related innovations and how they project manage their litigation matters. Offshore firms have introduced a number of products for general efficiency purposes and have taken a variety of investment approaches. Bedell Cristin has brought in INTAP technology for time recording, while Appleby operates an internal portal that houses high-level information from a variety of data sources and presents them in an intelligent format in a single point of view. Advances in technology over the past year "have resulted in significant improvements around litigation processes and within the teams that support those functions", says the firm. Conyers Dill & Pearman and Harneys both use Relativity for document management and disclosure purposes, while Conyers is piloting litigation-specific file management software.

Artificial intelligence institute in pipeline

#artificialintelligence

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Wadhwani Institute of Artificial Intelligence (WIAI), California through the University of Mumbai (MU) in order to set up a research institute for artificial intelligence (AI) in Mumbai. AI is the theory and development of computer systems that makes them competent for performing tasks that usually require human intelligence. The skills involved include visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making and translating languages. According to MU officials, the artificial institute will be a non-profit for applied research and development projects ranging from pure engineering to future-oriented projects. "The institute will be used for social good and the benefit of the interested students," said an official.

AI and Robotics considered future skills for employment by college graduates

#artificialintelligence

New Delhi [India], Dec 7 (ANI-NewsVoir): Excerpts from the section of Future Jobs: Future Skills from India Skills Report 2018 shows 46 percent of college graduates find Artificial intelligence as the next generation technology where technology leaders are drumming up the thought that the emergence of new technology such as AI and Robotics are going to be the new drivers of employment. Over 36 percent consider 3D and Bio Printing where 21 percent consider Agricultural Robots and only seven percent consider Augmented Reality as next gen technology for employment. The section on Future Jobs also finds that more than 52 percent candidates consider Agricultural Technologies followed by 25 percent consider Healthcare technologies to be the focus for companies for technology adoption where Transport and Military Technologies were considered 12 and 11 percent respectively where future jobs will arrive. Recently All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has revised the curriculum for the four year undergraduate program. Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Internet of things are mandatory induction program from academic year 2018-19 to prepare future engineers more employable.

News With Views UN Scheduled Hearings On Approving Killer Robots

#artificialintelligence

There's a well-devised, satanic conspiracy to replace humans with robots. This conspiracy-fact is being played out between government, a specific group of billionaires and the mad scientist assembling this replacement project. The Universal Basic Income aspect of this conspiracy is the monetary pacifier, the mass domestication, the frog in the pot of gradually boiling water, if you will, to prevent a premature, informed revolt before the actual replacement process. You may think a mechanical robot like the one in the movie Chappie is cute and it may make you feel all warm and fuzzy. You may have even acquired a protective instinct for robots, while watching the movie, which I'm sure, is the intended purpose.

Google to open artificial intelligence centre in China

#artificialintelligence

Google is deepening its push into artificial intelligence (AI) by opening a research centre in China, even though its search services remain blocked in the country. Google said the facility would be the first its kind in Asia and would aim to employ local talent. Silicon Valley is focusing heavily on the future applications for AI. China has also indicated strong support for AI development and for catching up with the US. Research into artificial intelligence has the potential to improve a range of technologies, from self-driving cars and automated factories to translation products and facial recognition software.

Why AI and robots can never replace human teachers

#artificialintelligence

I read with interest recent reports about China wanting to bring artificial intelligence (AI) to its classrooms to boost its education system. This brings us to the debate over whether artificial intelligence, that is, robots, will replace human teachers in the future. I believe that is unlikely. Of course, AI could help lighten the workload of classroom teachers, in areas like analysing students' past performance and optimising lessons accordingly; marking their tests and quizzes, and correcting their homework and assignments. Robot teachers could also deliver preprogrammed lessons and provide answers to frequently asked questions.

Impressive Technologies Driving the Artificial Intelligence - insideBIGDATA

#artificialintelligence

Extreme automation and global connectivity are the needs of the hour and therefore artificial intelligence (AI) is imperative. AI is an amalgamation of several technologies that enable smart machines to perform human-like tasks by sensing, understanding, acting, and learning, thereby making life much simpler. The technologies constituting AI include machine learning, natural language processing, speech recognition, image processing, intelligent agents, and chatbots. AI has transformed the way businesses run, compete, and thrive today. It improves productivity, greatly helps reduce errors, allows to perform difficult and laborious tasks, and increases customer satisfaction.

China is preparing for a trillion-dollar autonomous-driving revolution

Chinese internet company LeEco Holdings Ltd unveils its internet electric battery driverless concept car'LeSEE' during a launch event in Beijing. Chinese manufacturers and internet giants are in hot pursuit of their US counterparts in the race to design driverless cars, but the route to market is still littered with potholes. China has begun preparing programs and cities for an autonomous driving revolution expected to generate $1 trillion in revenue globally, the South China Morning Post reported. Nearly 300 Chinese cities and regions, including Xinjiang and Nanjing, and have already introduced "smart-city" projects controlled by artificial intelligence technology to enhance daily life, SCMP said. Smart cities use cloud-based technology to integrate across several industries, including transportation, health care and public security, according to government-owned China Daily.

The Rise of AI and the Revamp of HR

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fast becoming a mainstream element of business, a trend that is clearly visible in the APAC markets. While the larger Asian economies like India and China have the privilege of humungous data, Singapore and Australia have a clear roadmap for leveraging their strong R&D capabilities for AI advancement. The applications of AI differ by demographics, ranging from financial services to logistics to healthcare and more recently, talent management. Singapore is turning to AI to future-proof its economy against its core challenges- an ageing population and human-resource constrained economy. The wide presence of knowledge-intensive industries is compelling the government to explore automation and AI-led avenues to manage talent better.

AI looks certain to reshape our daily lives

Artificial intelligence will play an important role in reshaping an array of major industries such as retail, manufacturing and healthcare. Leading senior executives told the 4th World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, eastern China, that rapid technological changes will transform companies and society. Robin Li, chief executive of Baidu, felt that in comparison with mobile internet technology, which revolutionised consumer services, artificial intelligence (AI) would have a far bigger influence on how companies ran their businesses. "For instance, Baidu is leveraging AI to help supermarkets better manage their supply of fresh food, by analysing and predicting which products are most popular," said Li, who runs China's largest search engine. He pointed out that such solutions had effectively reduced food waste and boosted profit growth at pilot stores.
