AI and Machine Learning major growth areas in technology: Lenovo Gadgets Now

#artificialintelligence

LAS VEGAS: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are going to be major areas of growth in the tech world to leverage these for improving productivity and efficiencies, according to one of the top executives of Lenovo. Ken Wong, President of Asia Pacific with the Fortune 500 company, said that their own experience from AI and ML internally in several countries is being packaged and sold to large companies -- starting with China -- to improve productivity and business. "We are one of the biggest companies on planet to effectively leverage AI and ML for efficient global supply operations and for planning and management of manufacturing," Wong told IANS in an interview on the sidelines of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 here. To further leverage technology for manufacturing processes, Wong said the company was setting up three specialised research labs in the United States, Germany and China on AI and ML. The company, he said, would invest around $1.2 billion in the next two to four years to be on the cutting edge of these growth areas.

The Five Fundamental Building Blocks for Artificial Intelligence in Banking

#artificialintelligence

To find success with artificial intelligence, banks and credit unions will need to cultivate new capabilities -- from machine learning to natural language processing. Computer scientist and celebrated futurist Ray Kurzweil says artificial intelligence will match human intelligence by 2029, and that by 2045, it will have multiplied the human biological machine intelligence of our civilization a billion times. Predictions like this abound amid the hype surrounding AI. Real understanding however, is less common. Many enterprises are unclear about what constitutes AI, where it can be applied, and how to prioritize its use cases within the organization.

I played with Sony's new Aibo robot dog, and I miss it already

#artificialintelligence

Between the flooded booths and convention center blackouts, CES 2018 has been kind of a disaster. But for me, at least, one little gadget saved the whole thing by reminding me why the show exists in the first place. Sony is rolling back the years with Aibo, the resurrection of the robot dog line that was one of its most iconic brands during its '90s and 2000s heyday. The new Aibo is quite simply adorable. It has touch sensors on its head, chin, and back so you can pet it.

2018 Year of Intelligence - Artificial and Augmentation

#artificialintelligence

This year my first post of the year is written from New Delhi India. Year 1956 when'Artificial Intelligence' was coined got its place in history and now Year 2018 will make people forget everything of past and will attain much more higher level respect for AI. As soon as it works, no one will call it AI anymore. In short 1956 Year of AI will be rewritten as 2018 Year of AI & IA and AI Integration with Web and Mobile Apps will lead the trend chart. What this means is; the idea that once upon a time was "Technology like the photo library on our smartphone would have once been considered AI, now it's just the norm."

A Clever Radio Trick Can Tell If a Drone Is Watching You

WIRED

As flying, camera-wielding machines get ever cheaper and more ubiquitous, inventors of anti-drone technologies are marketing every possible idea for protection from hovering eyes in the sky: Drone-spotting radar. Now one group of Israeli researchers has developed a new technique for that drone-control arsenal--one that can not only detect that a drone is nearby, but determine with surprising precision if it's spying on you, your home, or your high-security facility. Researchers at Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva, Israel have built a proof-of-concept system for counter-surveillance against spy drones that demonstrates a clever, if not exactly simple, way to determine whether a certain person or object is under aerial surveillance. They first generate a recognizable pattern on whatever subject--a window, say--someone might want to guard from potential surveillance. Then they remotely intercept a drone's radio signals to look for that pattern in the streaming video the drone sends back to its operator.

AI Predicted to Add $957 Billion to India's Economic Growth

#artificialintelligence

The burgeoning artificial intelligence field could add $957 billion to the Indian economy, according to research released by Accenture in a report entitled "Rewire for Growth." It predicts AI has the potential to add 1.3 percent to India's growth rate of gross value added, increasing income 15 percent by 2035. The report examined India's innovation ecosystem and compared it to other G20 countries; areas studied include India's large businesses, startups, universities, multi-stakeholder partnerships, and policymakers. Accenture concluded that India's strong talent pool, its excellent universities, and strong business entities both large and small hold tremendous promise, but the nation currently lags in AI fields, especially when compared to the UK's Oxford and Cambridge and other global entities. Furthermore, funding for AI startups in India trail both the United States and China, although the country has grown at an above average rate since 2011 and ranks third among G20 nations as of 2016.
