157 Artificial Intelligence Platforms to Help You Grow Your Business 60 Second Marketer @AskJamieTurner

#artificialintelligence

The odds are pretty good that you're using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) more often than you realize. After all, every time you do a Google search (like the one that probably brought you here), you're using software that has Artificial Intelligence ingrained in its DNA. These are good questions, so let's start there. In its simplest form, AI is the ability for a computer or computer-controlled robot to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings. AI is an umbrella term that would include a wide variety of things including self-driving cars, Google search, image recognition software, and a whole slew of stuff you already use or are at least thinking of using. Machine Learning is a sub-category of AI. It gives computers the ability to automatically learn and improve by using algorithms. It's sort of like a recipe that you keep adjusting and improving each time you use it.) So … Artificial Intelligence is a broad category that covers computers and robots that do human tasks, and Machine Learning is a sub-category that focuses in on the use of algorithms that continue to improve the more they're used. As mentioned at the top of the post, you're using some of these tools already. The last time you did a Google Image Search, you were using AI. The last time you ran a paid search campaign, you were using AI. And the last time you scrolled through your Facebook feed, you were using AI. But what about all the other tools and platforms that use Artificial Intelligence to learn and improve over time? And what can they do? What follows are 157 of the top Artificial Intelligence platforms that can help you grow your business. We've broken them into different categories so you can scroll through and focus in on the categories that are most important to you. This is a living, organic list, so if you see a platform that's missing, just mention it in the comments section below and we'll try to add it in later. Also, let us know if you think any of the platforms have been miscategorized -- it's a big list and we're trying to improve it all the time.

China's Didi Chuxing opens AI research lab in Beijing

#artificialintelligence

Chinese ride-hailing giant Didi Chuxing has unveiled the next stage in its artificial intelligence (AI) efforts with the opening of a new AI research lab in Beijing. The move comes one month after Didi Chuxing announced a fresh $4 billion in funding, taking its total inbound investment to nearly $20 billion since its inception. At the time, the company said it planned to use the cash to increase its push into AI and support its global expansion. At a launch event in Beijing today, Didi Chuxing said its new AI Labs is set up to "push the boundaries of transportation innovation," working in conjunction with the AI hub it launched in Silicon Valley last March. The U.S. has emerged as a key area of focus for Chinese technology companies looking to expand their AI initiatives, with internet giant Baidu opening a Silicon Valley arm dedicated to self-driving cars back in 2016 and then expanding its presence in the area with a new AI research base a year later.

Ford patent details system for autonomous police cars

Engadget

This month, Ford was granted a patent for an autonomous police car. The car can work in cooperation with a human officer or by itself, and it can tell when a traffic law has been violated and act accordingly. These may be described as "autonomous police vehicles," but I'm just going to say what we're all thinking: This is RoboCop. The autonomous police officer can use one of the connected sensors to figure out if there's been a violation. For simple warnings and speeding tickets, the vehicle can just capture an image of the license plate.

HTC Vive Pro's dual cameras can apparently track hand motion

Engadget

When HTC unveiled its higher-end Vive Pro VR system back at CES, the company was suspiciously quiet about the dual cameras on this VR headset: there were no related demos, and the company reps remained tight-lipped. The smart-ass in me assumed that based on the similar looks, this module was probably a variant of the inside-out tracking sensor on the standalone Vive Focus, while others speculated that it would bring AR capability. Well, today we finally have an answer: it's actually a depth sensor, and it'll apparently enable basic hand tracking without additional hardware. This new bit of information came straight from the horse's mouth. By that I mean HTC Vive's Vice President Raymond Pao, who I bumped into at the company's Shenzhen event earlier this week -- it was celebrating the commencement of the Vive Focus' shipment, as well as introducing the Vive Pro to the Chinese media and partners.

Times AI Hub Lauds 'Industrial uses of AI' In Its Maiden Event

#artificialintelligence

TimesJobs powered'Artificial Intelligence' community - Times AI Hub - conducted its maiden event at IIT Delhi to discuss the industrial uses of AI. The event brought together AI industry stalwarts and students and highlighted real-life use cases from farming to telecom. New Delhi, January 25, 2018: When Saudi Arabia granted citizenship to humanoid robot Sophia, most people didn't know how to react to the fact that a life-size bot was'living' among them, dressing up meticulously and talking about her aspirations of having a family. Bots have long been used to facilitate basic, repetitive jobs in many industries. In India, we may not have a bot as celebrated as Sophia, but bots are already serving food in a Chennai restaurant and helping customers in a Mumbai bank.

'History Shows Humans Cannot Stop Technological Advancements'- Specialist

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence, like every technology, comes with benefits and risks, according to Moshe Vardi, who in an interview with Radio Sputnik said that technology and automation have been replacing human jobs for a long time now. "Machines were stronger than us, more powerful than us, now they are gradually becoming smarter than us. And that means to compete with machines, humans have to get better and better," Vardi said. "China has tried it and the West arose and continued to develop while China stagnated. So unless we live in a world where somehow we can control everyone it's unlikely that we will be able to stop the advancements of technology," Vardi told Sputnik.

When it comes to raising tens of millions of dollars in venture capital, it helps to be a veteran of Baidu's artificial intelligence units. Over the prior 12 months, former employees of the Chinese tech giant have raised close to US$300 million in VC funding rounds, according to a review of deals by China Money Network. The latest recipient of VC funding is Aibee, an artificial intelligence solutions provider founded by Lin Yunqing, former head of Baidu Inc's Institution of Deep Learning (IDL), which today announced a RMB165 million (US$25 million) angel round led by China's venture capital firm Kinzon Capital. Alibee was established in last November, after Lin resigned from the tech giant Baidu in October. It focuses on developing AI solutions in areas such as computer vision, speech recognition, natural language understanding and big data analytics.

Ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt is 'very concerned' about AI

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Former Google chief Eric Schmidt has revealed he is'very concerned' that Russia and China are leading the race on artificial intelligence. Schmidt flagged the risk of their commercial as well as military aspirations, saying their lead in AI could help them conquer the world. It follows his warning last year that China will overtake the US in AI by 2025. The former Google chief Eric Schmidt (pictured) has revealed he'very concerned' Russia and China could use AI to get world domination Speaking at BBC's Tomorrow's World Live at London's Science Museum with Professor Brian Cox, Schmidt, 62, admitted he worries about what rival countries could do with their technology. 'I'm very concerned about this', he said in response to a question from a member of the audience about the AI race between China and Russia.
