A Glimpse Into The Future Of Recruiting

#artificialintelligence

Students use keyboards during a computer and information technology class at a learning center in New Delhi, India. Can AI be the key to modernizing the recruiting process? Traditionally, job seekers have been producing chronological summaries of their employment history, job titles and responsibilities, and education. Whether agonizing over which paper stock would make the best first impression, or which font best says "creative, but deadline-conscious," the resume has remained mostly unchanged. Things haven't evolved much on the hiring side, either.

Mario and Minions? Illumination to co-produce Nintendo film

The Japan Times

Mario is getting together with the Minions. Video game company Nintendo Co. says a movie starring the plumber from the Super Mario franchise is in the works, co-produced with Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination Entertainment, the U.S. animation studio behind the popular "Despicable Me" series. Nintendo's star game designer Shigeru Miyamoto told reporters Thursday the script is mostly finished. He's promising a "fun" movie, since Meledandri shares his thinking on creative projects. The movie, two years in the making after a meeting between Meledandri and Miyamoto, is set for global distribution through Universal, which co-owns Illumination, according to the Kyoto-based owner of the Pokemon trademark and developer of the popular Switch game console.

Amazon Wants to Disrupt Health Care in America. In China, Tech Giants Already Have.

#artificialintelligence

Amazon and two other American titans are trying to shake up health care by experimenting with their own employees' coverage. Technology companies like Alibaba and Tencent have made health care a priority for years, and are using China as their laboratory. After testing online medical advice and drug tracking systems, they are now focused on a more advanced tool: artificial intelligence. Their aggressive push underscores the differences between the health care systems in China and the United States. Chinese hospitals are overburdened, with just 1.5 doctors for every 1,000 people -- barely half the figure in the United States.

Artificial intelligence for real conversations

#artificialintelligence

In a world of automated e-commerce, a couple of entrepreneurs realised that for many potential customers, there was still a lot of comfort in transacting with a bit of conversation, even if over text-based chat. Snehal Dhruve and Bineet Desai, who are brothers-in-law, and had already founded two start-ups: Being Baby, which dealt with baby products, and Go Hero, focussing on travel. Both ventures used conversational e-commerce using AI, or artificial intelligence. In 2016 they decided to put their expertise and learnings to work for other clients, and set up Superfan, a real-time automated customer engagement platform. "Globally, 3 billion users are on messaging apps," Mr. Dhruve says.

China and the US are bracing for an AI showdown--in the cloud

#artificialintelligence

Chinese and American tech giants are preparing for a showdown that may shape the future of artificial intelligence. China's cloud providers, Alibaba, Tencent, and Baidu, are getting ready to do battle with US giants Amazon, Google, and Microsoft to deliver AI online. As Chinese companies seek to expand their reach, they may increasingly aim their cloud services at US companies and developers, and vice versa. Speaking at EmTech China, an event held by MIT Technology Review in Beijing, Jian Wang, president of Alibaba's technology committee and a senior figure at the company, predicted that cloud AI would become a major trend. "I'm convinced that AI or machine learning will be the major consumer of applications [in the cloud]," Wang said through a translator.

Should You Fear AI in Finance? -

#artificialintelligence

Science Magazine's report on Friday that an artificial intelligence system was caught stealing banking customers' money may have made you rethink vesting your funds in the burgeoning technology. But have no fear – the article was an April Fool's joke. While there are still valid and plenty of concerns about AI, the threat that the so called "Deep Learning Interface for Accounting (DELIA)" may embezzle your funds is not one of them. In fact, AI systems are a remarkably valuable resource in finance. Established banks and startups alike implement AI to detect fraud.

Promoting the Use of AI within the Life Sciences Industry

#artificialintelligence

Awareness of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) is ever-increasing, with AI being one of the most talked about technologies across multiple industries. But exactly who is using it? And what are they using it for? The Pistoia Alliance is a not-for-profit organization that aims to promote collaboration between pharmaceutical, technology, and life science professionals to lower barriers to R&D innovation by addressing challenges related to data aggregation and accessibility. One of their current projects focuses on promoting the use of AI in R&D.

Powervision Launches The World's First Consumer Underwater Drone, Powerray In Singapore - IoTNews.asia

PowerVision, a world leader in AI robotics and technology unveils the PowerRay, an innovative underwater robot with groundbreaking features to revolutionize recreational fishing enthusiasts and marine photography. As a financial hub and trusted gateway to the emerging Asian markets, PowerVision has strategically selected Singapore to lead the Southeast Asian release following the global launch of PowerRay in San Francisco (USA), Munich (Germany), Beijing (China) and Tokyo (Japan). Singapore is the fifth city to launch the world's first underwater drone, followed by Hong Kong in March, as well as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand in April. PowerRay is the first consumer-level lifestyle underwater robot from PowerVision and was first unveiled at CES 2017 as one of a series of marine and aerial "Power" drones including the PowerEye, PowerEgg, and PowerDolphin. They have been well received by the media and consumers for its advanced product concept and functional advantages.

Spatio-Temporal Graph Convolutional Networks: A Deep Learning Framework for Traffic Forecasting

arXiv.org Machine Learning

Timely accurate traffic forecast is crucial for urban traffic control and guidance. Due to the high nonlinearity and complexity of traffic flow, traditional methods cannot satisfy the requirements of mid-and-long term prediction tasks and often neglect spatial and temporal dependencies. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning framework, Spatio-Temporal Graph Convolutional Networks (STGCN), to tackle the time series prediction problem in traffic domain. Instead of applying regular convolutional and recurrent units, we formulate the problem on graphs and build the model with complete convolutional structures, which enable much faster training speed with fewer parameters. Experiments show that our STGCN model effectively captures comprehensive spatio-temporal correlations through modeling multi-scale traffic networks and consistently outperforms state-of-the-art baselines on various real-world traffic datasets.
