Hyundai Nexo: Water produced by driverless car could be stored and used to drink
Commuters could soon be taken to work in a driverless car which is so clean they could relax on the journey with a cup of tea brewed using water from the tailpipe. The state-of-the-art Hyundai Nexo is a crossover SUV vehicle which runs on electrical energy generated by hydrogen fuel cells. Unlike traditional combustion engines, hydrogen cars don't emit carbon dioxide or nitrous oxide so its only by-product is water vapour. The water produced by Nexo could even be stored and used later to pour on plants or even used to make a cup of tea or coffee. Hyundai has also just showcased its'level 4' autonomous driving technology using Nexo as the test bed.

Tepco to use SoftBank's driverless bus to transport Fukushima workers
FUKUSHIMA – Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. is set to pick a driverless electric bus made by a SoftBank Group Corp. unit to transport those decommissioning its disaster-crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant, informed sources said. The bus service will start this spring, transporting workers within the plant, which was disabled by a triple core meltdown after the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Last November, Tepco conducted a test of the bus made by SB Drive Corp., the SoftBank unit, and another from DeNA Co. As a result, Tepco decided to adopt SB Drive's bus, giving it high marks for safety and ease of maintenance, the sources said. The bus, called the Arma, is 4.75 meters long and can hold 15 passengers.
AI does grunt work on China's pig farms
Artificial intelligence technology has been developed to help piglets survive their first months - and then to decide which sows to kill. The scheme is being rolled out in China, the world's biggest producer and consumer of pork. It marks the latest deployment of tech giant Alibaba's ET Brain cloud computing service. China's pig industry is notoriously inefficient, but one expert said the tech could also prove useful elsewhere. For now, the trial is limited to the country's Sichuan province. Alibaba teamed up with local feed provider Sichuan Tequ and the farming group Dekon to develop the solution.

Taking that as inspiration, ad agency McCann Erickson recently added the world's first artificial intelligence (AI)-based creative director to its team in Japan. The memorably named AI-CD β will use data on award-winning commercials to produce ideas for new campaigns. The company isn't the first to let the math do the thinking: In 2014, Hong Kong–based venture capital firm Deep Knowledge Ventures announced a new addition to its board of directors, VITAL, which uses data to vote on potential investments. More recently, Finnish tech company Tieto welcomed Alicia T., an AI complete with a conversational interface, to the board (a win for board diversity?) of its new data-driven business services unit. This doesn't mean AI-based technology will become your overlords or replacements.
AI is the new battleground in geopolitics
The Chinese juggernaut is broad, with an effort to deploy AI in its military, agriculture, logistics, healthcare and media sectors, the report said. China is especially keen on two strategic areas of AI -- facial recognition, a pillar of its elevated efforts at state surveillance; and AI chips, in order to make a "direct challenge to U.S.-made chips," by companies like Nvidia, CB said. Apple's new smart speaker can stain the surfaces it is left on, the company has said. Numerous reports online claim that the plastic bottom of the new smart speaker can leave a ring-shaped mark wherever the HomePod has been. The problem appears limited to specific woods that have been treated in particular ways – but when it happens, a visible white ring is left on the otherwise brown surface. Now Apple has acknowledged the problem and said that many speakers that have silicone bases, which keep the vibration from rattling the surface, can cause this kind of discoloration. It only appears to happen on some wooden surfaces that have been treated by oils – but those surfaces are often used on kitchen worktops, and that represents one of the key places that people will be using the new speaker.
