Global AI Talent Pool Report
For further commentary beyond the report, see the accompanying blog post. For a table of the full list of countries and their numbers, or to submit information about the talent pool in your region, send a message using the contact form. The demand for AI experts has grown exponentially over the last few years. As companies increasingly adopt AI solutions for their businesses, the need for highly experienced, PhD-educated, and technically-adept talent shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. Although these data visualizations map the distribution of worldwide talent at the start of 2018, we want to acknowledge that this is a predominantly Western-centric model of AI expertise. We are submitting our work amidst similar, though much broader, reports such as Tencent's recent "2017 Global AI Talent White Paper," which focused primarily on China in comparison to the United States.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a disruptive force that is defining the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and promises to change nearly every aspect of business and society. Most agree its impact will be profound--nearly 3 in 4 (72%) of business leaders (reports the PwC Consumer Intelligence Series survey on AI) believe AI will be the business advantage of the future. But AI technologies (including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing and generation, autonomous systems, robotics, virtual assistants) are so complex and advancing so quickly it's impossible to pin down what will happen over the next 5 to 10 years. But you can--and should--anticipate what's coming in the near-term so you can prepare your business and workforce for a world in which AI is the engine that drives exponential amounts innovation. In fact, a recent PwC study forecasted that AI will contribute $15.7 trillion to global GDP by 2030.
Can AI win the war against fake news?
It may have been the first bit of fake news in the history of the Internet: in 1984, someone posted on Usenet that the Soviet Union was joining the network. It was a harmless April's Fools Day prank, a far cry from today's weaponized disinformation campaigns and unscrupulous fabrications designed to turn a quick profit. In 2017, misleading and maliciously false online content is so prolific that we humans have little hope of digging ourselves out of the mire. Instead, it looks increasingly likely that the machines will have to save us. One algorithm meant to shine a light in the darkness is AdVerif.ai,

Shiffrin Drops Out of Olympic Downhill After Schedule Change
The downhill is Wednesday, so the 22-year-old American suddenly would have had to race on consecutive days. Lawson taps AI for help deciding where to open new stores
Convenience store chain Lawson Inc. might use artificial intelligence to help it make decisions about opening new stores, company officials said Sunday. Lawson aims to enhance the capability of stores to fulfill particular needs in each region by using AI to collect and analyze marketing data, including household distribution patterns and traffic volumes, to predict the profitability of new stores in each target area. It would be the first such attempt to incorporate AI technology in Japan's retail sector, the officials said. Demonstrations of the technology began at the end of last year, when the firm opened new Lawson Store 100 shops that sell fresh foods. The retailer plans to expand the introduction of AI to other stores, including its conventional Lawson and high-end Natural Lawson outlets.
