Today the words "revolutionary" and "disruptive" are more than a little overused when it comes to how we describe technologies in this increasingly digitally-saturated world. One industry where these terms make total and unequivocal sense, though, is healthcare. That's why I've covered topics like what doctors think about tech and patient care and what challenges are associated with healthcare and the IoT because what's happening in this space fascinates me. Today, the focus in healthcare is on AI--and for good reason. Let's explore how AI continues to disrupt the healthcare industry--how AI is redefining healthcare and how, and why China is at the forefront of the revolution.

Israel-based BrainQ is a new nuerotech startup hoping to take on brain-computer interface (BCI) companies like Braintree founder Bryan Johnson's Kernel and Silicon Valley billionaire Elon Musk's Neuralink. It's not clear yet what Musk's startup intends to do with the computer chips it plans to put in our heads but Johnson's startup says it is focused on developing "technologies to understand and treat neurological diseases in new and exciting ways." Whatever sector each company goes for, both plan to insert chips in our brains to connect us to computers -- the consequences of which could have dramatic effects on human memory, intelligence, communication and many other areas that could rocket humanity forward, should they work out. But it's early days in this industry, including for BrainQ, which plans to use a non-surgically embedded EEG machine instead to gather data and help improve outcomes for stroke and spinal cord patients. Aside from the brain implant options, BrainQ faces quite a bit of competition in this area.

Below, a few of the biggest Oscar milestones that may come to fruition on Sunday night. Outside of the technical categories, sci-fi movies have always had a tough go at the Academy Awards. With rare exception, they're usually overlooked for Best Picture--but depending upon who you ask, Guillermo del Toro's Creature From the Black Lagoon–inspired love story between a woman and a fish-man is the current front-runner (or close to it). Though their respective films, 12 Years a Slave and Moonlight, were crowned Best Picture, Steve McQueen and Barry Jenkins didn't manage to take home the coveted directing award.

Ford Motor Co. is making Miami-Dade County its new test bed for self-driving vehicles. The automaker and its partners - Domino's Pizza, ride-hailing company Lyft and delivery company Postmates - are starting pilot programs to see how consumers react to autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles. Self-driving startup and Ford partner Argo AI already has a fleet of cars in the area making the highly detailed maps that are necessary for self-driving. Ford also will establish its first-ever autonomous vehicle terminal in Miami, where it will learn how to service and deploy its test fleet. Ford is making Miami-Dade County its new test bed for self-driving vehicles.

The man who made the entire nation scamper about to reach their devices to search the word "farrago" has said that jobs in India are in danger due to artificial intelligence. Speaking on the third day at Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO) conclave in Chennai, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor spoke about the negative effects of using artificial intelligence. "Artificial intelligence is also making inroads into jobs like medical transcription. A World Bank report points out that 69 percent of Indian jobs would be taken away by robots," said Tharoor. "In the US, they are talking about driverless cars. What will happen to 25 million drivers in India?" he said, according to a national newspaper.

Of the many vehicles that drove the 120 miles from Seoul to Pyeongchang for the Winter Olympics, one Hyundai stood out. Not because it runs on hydrogen, though that's unusual enough. This Nexo crossover did the cross-country trip all on its own. And just like the athletes, the car was there to show off its skills for the crowds. Along with two just like it, plus a pair of autonomous Genesis G80 sedans, it spent the Games giving demonstration rides to fans.

AI has led to drastic changes across sectors. On one hand, WHO has reported that the prevalence of chronic disease is expected to rise by 57% by 2020. On the other hand, advancements in detecting and diagnosing diseases are expected to minimize the cost of treating chronic diseases. These innovative technologies include genomics, proteomics, cell biology, stem cell and organ therapy, and minimally invasive and robotic surgery. Most importantly, majority of these new advancements are likely to be fuelled by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Tomy Co. said Tuesday it is gearing up to release its first new lineup of "mecha"-themed animal toys known as Zoids in 12 years. The firm said it plans to market the plastic models through the classic Japanese media-mix formula of anime, manga and video games starting in Japan in April and then moving on to the rest of the world. The 35-year-old toy series allows users to assemble plastic parts to create battery-powered robotic dinosaurs, animals and insects. "Zoids are animal and dinosaur robots. It sounds simple, but we think this is an important factor that captures the hearts of boys around the world," Yutaka Tajima, head of a Tomy division tasked with making toys aimed at the boy demographic, said during a news conference in Tokyo.

China: Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi is trying to speed up its global expansion with the help of Microsoft. The company on Friday entered into an agreement with Microsoft to explore Microsoft's AI technology and cloud services into Xiaomi hardware. In a statement, Xiaomi said it aims to make its "products and services better fit the global market" through this partnership. The two companies have plenty to gain from each other. The Friday agreement binds the two companies to cooperate on Microsoft AI-powered products including its Bing search engine, Edge internet browser, and digital assistant Cortana, among others.

Marketing firms in the Asia Pacific region lead the world in implementing artificial intelligence, a new briefing shows. Data from Adobe's 2018 edition of its annual'Digital Intelligence Briefing' shows that digital marketing firms in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region are leading the industry in employing artificial intelligence (AI). Adobe's surveys found that 28% of top performing companies – those with profits over £150m (AU$270m) – are implementing or planning to implement AI, relative to the rest of the market at 12%. Speaking about the APAC region particularly, Paula Parkes, senior director, APAC Enterprise Marketing said, "smart organisations are investing in disruptive technologies to drive productivity and deliver compelling experiences for customers". Adobe's survey data revealed that majority of marketers currently engaging with the technology are using AI to analyse data, however APAC firms also lead in adopting AI in more niche areas, such as content creation and creative and design work.
