What might generate the UAE $6bn annually, get you fired and kill you?

#artificialintelligence

Look at your boss and remember his or her face. No matter your relationship with them, pretty soon your boss will be faceless, ruthless and will be looking to fire you at any moment's notice. Artificial Intelligence is garnering praise for its ability to create efficiency, save time and labor and generate income, as is the case for the UAE. Great, but that means you could be out of a job you love. Also, trusting this technology too much could also put your life at risk.

Top Indian Journals To Publish Machine Learning Research

Machine learning (ML) has been in the news since the past several years. The credit for this well-found recognition goes to advanced technology and sterling improvements in hardware. This can be attributed to the fact that scientists and researchers all over the world have worked really hard to come up with practical ML solutions to address critical, real-time problems. ML mainly acts as a helping hand to speeden the decision-making process at techno-business levels. With research in this field marching at a faster pace day-by-day, it is suggested that the people interested in ML keep themselves updated with the latest techniques and information in this frontier.

How Is AI Changing HR?

#artificialintelligence

As we wrapped up the 2017 Mercer Asia HR Leaders' Conference, we spoke with Jason Ho, Head of Group Human Resources at OCBC Bank. Mr. Ho shares his recent experience pioneering an artificial intelligence-powered HR chatbot called the "Buddy App." He shares how HR and development team collaborated to develop this new application based on the agile methodology as opposed to the traditional waterfall model. From an HR perspective, we need to understand what the digital strategy is and how it aligns with the business," says Ho. "HR transformation begins with changing mindset. Digital in HR means using technology, processes, people and data in an innovative way to align the HR function with changing business models."

Europe's AI delusion

#artificialintelligence

If the draft of its AI strategy is anything to go by, the EU has yet to recognize the technology's epochal significance Saul Loeb/AFP via Getty Images Brussels is failing to grasp threats and opportunities of artificial intelligence. When the computer program AlphaGo beat the Chinese professional Go player Ke Jie in a three-part match, it didn't take long for Beijing to realize the implications. If algorithms can already surpass the abilities of a master Go player, it can't be long before they will be similarly supreme in the activity to which the classic board game has always been compared: war. As I've written before, the great conflict of our time is about who can control the next wave of technological development: the widespread application of artificial intelligence in the economic and military spheres. That's why it's so worrying that while China has been quick to react to the threats and opportunities of AI, the European Union -- if the draft of its AI strategy is anything to go by -- has yet to recognize the technology's epochal significance.

Asian Shares Skid as US Tech Firms Face More Scrutiny

Another weak spot was Nvidia, which fell 7.8 percent after the chipmaker temporarily suspended self-driving tests across the globe after an Uber Technologies Inc autonomous vehicle killed a woman. Investors rotated out of the tech sector, which had long outperformed the market on hopes of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and internet of things (IoT). "There is a sense that there will be more regulations on Facebook or FANG and that the cost of compliance will increase," said Nobuhiko Kuramochi, chief strategist at Mizuho Securities. The so-called FANG, a quartet of tech stocks that include Facebook, Amazon.com, Netflix and Alphabet, have been a darling of many investors.

AI In Telecom: Intelligent Operations is the New Norm

@machinelearnbot

The move towards an intelligent world is faster and more rapid than it ever was before. The increase in this transition has been propagated through the role of several high key stakeholders that have redefined the way we look at technology. One of the key players in this transition is Huawei. Huawei's recent UBBF conference held in Hangzhou on October 18-19 was a step towards awareness in this regard. Being personally present at this conference, there were numerous intakes that I noted down and would like to present to my readers.

The recent successes of AI have captured the wildest imagination of both the scientific communities and the general public. Robotics and AI amplify human potentials, increase productivity and are moving from simple reasoning towards human-like cognitive abilities. Current AI technologies are used in a set area of applications, ranging from healthcare, manufacturing, transport, energy, to financial services, banking, advertising, management consulting and government agencies. The global AI market is around 260 billion USD in 2016 and it is estimated to exceed 3 trillion by 2024. To understand the impact of AI, it is important to draw lessons from it's past successes and failures and this white paper provides a comprehensive explanation of the evolution of AI, its current status and future directions.

Can a Laundry-Folding Robot Improve Your Life?

Chief executives of highly innovative companies must figure out how to take bold risks while being stable enough to sustain an enterprise over the long term. Achieving this balance is even more difficult in Japan, where lifelong employment is a strong tradition, than elsewhere. Shin Sakane, founder and CEO of the Japanese startup Seven Dreamers Laboratories, has built the company's identity around resolving that conflict. Sakane is a member of a prominent Japanese business family, perhaps best known as the founders and owners of the I.S.T Corporation, a global producer of composite materials made from glass fiber and fluorine resin. After completing a Ph.D. in chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Delaware, he returned to Japan in 2000, joining I.S.T as a managing director. He succeeded his father as CEO in 2003. In 2008, I.S.T acquired Super Resin, a company making components for the aerospace, industrial, automotive, and semiconductor industries.

HPE calls for bottom-up approach to AI

From financial modelling to using physical models to ascertain the performance of an aircraft engine in turbulent conditions, the use of economic theory and physical laws to predict outcomes has served humanity well. Every conference this year contains a dead human genius reincarnated as software system or a robot. Yes, there is a lot of hype, but there is real worth in AI and Machine Learning. Read our counseling on how to avoid adopting "black box" approach. You forgot to provide an Email Address.
